Ordering a 'Stang
I'm about 95% sure I'll be getting a new Mustang GT next fall when I graduate and I'm wondering if ordering one or looking for one on a lot is the better idea. [&:]
Do you generally have to pay more, or less if you order vs buy off the lot? Any other pros/cons?
How do you go about ordering one? Is there a specific channel I should go through?
Help and tips would be much appreciated
Thanks

I just order my gt about 2 weeks ago. but my family knows the owner, and we got a discount. I would say to shop around. I would think if you found a "left over" gt at a dealer, that you could get a deal on. But pretty much go dealer to dealer and see who gives you the best TOTAL price for a gt. I would start asap so you can start crossing off what dealers you dont want to go to. Trust me there going to be alot there are going to be like "well, were getting top dolloar" or they try to bs you. I know some dealers are charging some $1,000 ontop of the msrp for bs reason. That way when your ready to buy; youll have a idea who you wan to buy it from
good luck
good luck
I wish I knew a Ford dealership owner. I know owners of a honda dealership and a toyota dealership, but none of their cars interest me very much.
Believe me, I've already started, I like to plan way ahead. The 06 gt i test drove and became enamoured with was 8 grand over msrp. I plan to shoot for msrp or below. Thanks for the sound advice though.
Who would I talk to at a dealership if I wanted to order one? Just a salesperson, or can I bypass them and talk to a manager?

I looked into buying a Stang and did some research fist then I decided it was time to order one,I waited to long so now I have to wait to order one,it will have to be an 07,no biggie, but anyhow when I went though 3 dealers, first one they had very little info on them and could not answer my questions right, second wanted way over MSRP,I was laughing all the way out the door, third one I would have got at MSRP or under, but before we went into the haggling part he found out the 06's were back logged and rather then fight to get an 06 I decided to wait for the 07's that works for my more options for 07's and less bugs.
For me and my money if I cannot get it For a min of MSRP,I would go used or look at something diffrent,if you got money to burn well go get a Cobra for 20 to 25 over MSRP
Shop around I would say never go over MSRP,there are post in here were some buyers got 2 or 3 grand off MSRP for thereStang, all depends on the dealer.
There is always the used market, just get one with the Fact warrenty, you can also buy a warrenty off some 3rd partys after that runs out.

I would also suggest checking out the dealers inventory online, and contacting the internet sales manager. They usually will give you at least $500 off sticker for buying it through them rather than a salesman off the lot. I know of a few other stang-ers that got some pretty awesome deals that way.....just my 2cents.
dont pay over msrp, the dealership bsing if they try that. it also comes down to were you live. Some times, some people have to travel a little to get a good deal on a new car. So imo, more shopping around you do; better deal you'll get.
Also, whether you order or find one on a lot, I would suggest getting it "basic", meaning, dont spend a ton on wheels, interior package. I spent the money for the delux interior, and there is so much great aftermarket out there, i wish I had bought it stripped, and custom dressed it. I have anyway, in a lot of ways. The good interior package is nice, but there are some aftermarket items out that make much more of a statement, IMO
FYI,
Just bought an 06' GT from the Factory. Its due this week to me and time from order to putting my hands on the little bugger will be 7 weeks. Went this way due to no Black Vert's w/ Lt Graphite interior around my area and also could get a great deal due to Z plan. Always Check dealer inventories at this point in time. Lots of Stangs on lots here in So. Cal and elsewhere. 06' orders I'm told now are completed from the factory and 07' orders start now for June deliveries.............

My advice would be to do a practice run at a dealer you aren't planning on buying from. Since you don't have much experience dealing with the dealers (don't worry most people don't), you can try just about any tactic you want to see what price you can get them down to. Knowing that you won't be buying from this dealer either makes you not question your choices either. This can help you at least realize a little about what works. Try a few of em if you can as you will see almost all dealers will follow a similar 'script' if you will in how they talk to you and come back with offers.
First thing you want to do is get online and go to Ford.com and then build the vehicle you want. You will then have the option to search local dealers for the car you want. If you cannot locate any cars like you want then i would call a dealership that you wish to deal with and ask them for the name of the Fleet Manager. Then wait a day or so and contact him and inform him you would like to place and order for a Mustang and would like to know what he can do for you as far as a deal goes. You should be able to get the car for Dealer Cost plus say 500. which is more than fair for them and you. I would not pay any more than this and if they do not want to sell for this price find another dealer. You do not need to pay MSRP or even close to MSRP.
I would also go to kbb.com and build your car on there site. That site will give you both MSRP pricing and the dealer cost so you will know in advance what you are going to pay. Be advised that kbb is a couple hundred dollars off in the pricing though.
