I've had my car since the end of January and haven't seen it enough to break it in. It has 104 miles on it and most of that is to and from shops. The recommended is to keep the RPMs down and not drive it hard for the first 1,000 miles. At the same time you don't want to keep it at constant speeds, it is best to vary the speed. Also there is breaking in of the brakes. For the first 100 miles, you should avoid hitting the brakes real hard. Plan some extra distance and go easy on it. Now I'm sure as soon as I say that, there will be a hundred people that swear by a different method and theirs is absolutely the best and correct one. They range from, the best way to break in an engine is to take it out immediately and run it very hard to get the rings to seat well with the cylinders to 3,000 miles of easy driving the way I described. Choose what you think makes sense. -Joe

I would also suggest the method jbailer outlined.
