Default Overhead interior lights

I'm trying to figure out a way to hardwire a radar detector into my 06 mustang gt. Has anyone tried this? I was thinking about removing the cover from the overhead interior lights and tapping into that power supply there. It might require a slightly larger fuse, but this would work, wouldn't it? Any suggestions?

I believe the overhead lights dont have a cont power source/supply. Wire it into the 12v outlet (there are two, one on the console/armrest and ofcourse the one in the middle by the tc button) , that will definitely work.

i have my xm satellite radio hardwire into the overhead interior lights, there is a constant power going to my raido all i have to do is hit the power button, i did have it wired so when i open the door it kills the radio, but that got old. so i dunno if this will work with a radar detector but it worked with my xm.

The best way to wire it in is to use one of the two unused fuse plugs in your fuse block behind the passenger side kick panel. one is constant on, and one is key switch. Go to the auto parts store and ask for an accessory fuse plug, a plug the size of the mini fuse that plugs right into the slot, that has a fuse piggybacked on it, and a 4 inch wire that you can then wire your accessories to. I used a 10 amp fuse, then linked three different minor accesories to it, fusing each accessory with in line fuses. That way, you dont have to cut into the factory wiring at all. I just keep having this bad image in my head of white smoke rolling up from the wiring harness, going all around the car because of a short. I feel much better not having to cut into anything on the harness.

Don't know if I am aloud to say this or not but there is a guide to doing this on another forum, they did it with an Escort Radar but I was impressed with how it was done, even turns off when the lights go out because of the power source on the interior lights.

Pizzle- how did you remove the the overhead interior lights to get at the wiring? I think that would be ideal because you wouldn't have wires running down your windshield..

JD - the console with the lights just pops out. Pull carefully straight down and it comes off, no sweat.
