Why are axlebacks so expensive?

I see alot of these A/B's are 400 dollars or more (except for the slp, but theres no mufflers there, lol). For 2 mufflers and two tip and a bit of pipe? Seems like a lot? And Corsa's system is over 600, why are these so expensive?

I bought a pair of Flowmaster 2 chambers for my 5.0 for 75 bucks new, the same type of muffler for the new Mustang costs 4 times as much but is made the same way.... everything for this car costs more...

On the other hand the Mustang mufflers are specifically made ONLY for these cars. Perhaps the internals of the muffler are the standard. However, the tips and the pipe where they connect to the over-axle pipes are different. They have to manufacture these parts specifically for the Mustang mufflers rather than using off-the-shelf tubing on the generic mufflers. There is extra cost there. The tips are stainless (expensive raw material, especially these days) and they are nicely polished--extra cost there. Furthermore, they are selling far fewer of these compared to the "old standard" generic 2-chambers simply becasue their potential market is much smaller.
Now I agree that the flowmasters are pretty expensive--especially given that you can buy 100% stainless Borlas for less money--but I wouldn't expect them to drop down to the $75 range--there's just too much additional overhead involved compared to the old mufflers. I think they'll come down once more Mustangs are on the road, and they're making more of them.

They're not really comporable. The "2 chambers" that you're talking about are a universal muffler that will fit dozens, if not hundreds, of different models of car. Flowmaster probably makes them in the tens of thousands every year.

The NUMBER 1 REASON for these mufflers costing 400%+ more is we'll pay it, it's what the market will absorb and we gladly pay whatever they ask, maybe we complain a little but thats it, we'll pay it.

I don't believe the statement that axlebacks are so expensive for the new stang is because we'll pay any price. It's the quality of product that we're getting. Great sound, stainless steel, etc. Let's face it...the stock system sounds great for stock. These manufacturers have to put more effort into these to beat the stock system. More R&D and better quality parts are going to cost you and the price you'll have to pay for an even better sounding exhaust.
Corsa does make really high quality stuff, but it is very expensive also. They already have the technology i beleive to have the non-drone, they have some specific design they use.

Because we will pay that price.
Because we will pay that price.
We have a winnah!!!
Dont think that R/D costs so damn much. Im in the manufacturing business. You recoup your R/D on the first 100 units you sell. The rest is pure gravy after production costs.
I did not mind paying the 330 for the macs cause its a well put together product ...ss is NOT a pain to weld ..in fact its just as easy as carbon ...take it from someone who has been doing this for 20+ years ....a.s.m.e .....tuv....aws certified mf'er
