GT axle ratio question
I ordered a 2007 GT in April and I think I F***ed myself.
I did not read and compare the 2007 and 2006 order guides carefully enough, and my dealer was clueless and didn't point out the differnces.
From what I've read, I'm going to get a 2007 GT Manual with a 3.31 axle ratio.
It seems Ford is going to squeeze an extra $100 out of the customer for the 3.55 axle that was standard in the 2006.
I'm really mad at myself for not seeing this error sooner. I think I'm going to be disappointed in the performace. I really don't care to much about MPG, since this car will be a weekend driver.
Does anyone know how much slower the 3.31 will be vs. the 3.55 with the manual?
It seems everyone has caught Ford's scam except me. I'm thinking I may have the only 3.31 manual GT made.
Also, any ideas why Ford would put the 3.31 axle in the manual GT?
How much would a new gear set be, including installation?
Help and discussion appreciated.

Yes, you are correct about it being an added option for '07 (order code is 455). It's 87.00 invoice, 100.00 retail. I wouldn't let it spoil your anticipation of your new arrival though, the ratios are so close that you're not going to see much of a difference in performance. I've seen it suggested that Ford did this because they are trying to increase their across-the-board gas mileage to help with the CAFE standards.
Relax, you were reading the automatics gear ratio.
The automatic has a 3.31 rear end the manuals have a 3.55
I doubt Ford is changing the manuals to a 3.31 as well. There would be no reason for that
unless it's necessary to meet newer stricter gas mileage guidelines.
But I doubt that since the manual already gets better MPG than the auto.
It would also slow the car down too much, as the 2007 will already be slower than the 05/06 MGT due
to new thicker steel they are going to use in ALL Mustangs that will add a reported 90 pounds to the car.
They are doing this to strengthen the cars chassis a bit to handle the extra power and weight of the GT500
but they are doing it across the board on all the mustangs.
If you are worried about it, cancel your order. I don't think a dealer can charge you a "cancellation" fee anyway.

Well somebody else responded while I was typing, and apparently they are doing
it to increase the gas mileage.
That's lame they'd do it to the manual, since it's the auto that only gets 23 mpg hwy and the manual gets 25 mpg hwy.
I disagree though, you'd notice a slight drop in the acceleration. Again, combine the 3.31 axle with the added 90 pounds
and the car is going to be a good .2-.3 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile.

Well if you plan on modding your going to change the gears regardless if there 3.31 or 3.55--------just get 3.73 or 4.10's once you get you car

4.10's for a manual
3.73's for an automatic.
They did this probably so they could speed up assembly. My guess is that both the automatic and manual now have 3.31's stock. A taller gear might get them an extra "EPA estimated" .1 mpg or so as well!

This statement is incorrect, the 2007 manual comes standard with 3.31 rear and the 3.55 is an option like most have been saying. I was thinking about an 07 but I want with an 06, but not because of the wait. I just couldnt wait anymore. Just install 4.10's in it!!
