I'm assuming that is the charge motion plate delete kit.

The stock charge motion control plates are actually really good despite rumors saying otherwise. As the stock butterfly plates are fully open at WOT, you actually get no better performance with the deletes N/A. The only reason you need this mod is if you have forced induction. It's not even a performance issue either, it's a matter of the plastic material of the butterflys has a tendancy to bend and block cylinders under boost. All the twin screw kits come with delete kits anyway so really the only people that need to consider this mod are the centrifugal blower guys.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget the turbo guys.... There is not an ounce of plastic on the CMCR that I have seen.... And I have handled my fair share of them, The only plastic is outside the engine on the actuator arms. But internally they are all metal.......... And the butterlys even when open are a flow restriction. They are not perfectly straight up when the valves are all the way open, so its like a 1/4" of material in there actually blocking the airflow.

Sorry I missed the turbo guys...

They actually are open all the way at WOT. Not one single n/a car has had a probblem with them. Justin Burcham blew his motor because they bent under 16 psi and blocked all but a single cylinder and....BOOM!

The plates may be "open" all the way, but there is still the center shaft and the edge of the plates sticking into the intake tract.

5.0 Mustangs Magazine claims a significant HP improvement (on a NA car) by installing them. I have heard the same thing from Brent at Brenspeed, though a tune is required for it.

Anyone care to explain what charge motion plates are? Possibly with pictures?

Thanks guys, I'm always looking for more power. I'm going up to Indiana next week to Brents for a header install and I'll see what he thinks. Thanks again Phatphil

True but I'm not aware of any canned tunes for them because of other airflow mods like headers, etc. The fact you need a custom tune should be part of the consideration if you're considering them. They are defnitely not a 'plug and play' mod. The guys I know who have deleted them have not seen any significant HP increase. Important to note too that you can delete them yourself for less than $50 and some wrench time. The steedas are not needed to delete them.

Here is a link to 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords article about the mod:

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...0_cmrc_delete/

The parts shown in that article (from Paul's Performance) are simply the OEM "housings" with the butterflies & shaft removed and the holes plugged up. Like BlownGT said, you could do this yourself with some JB weld and a little work. There is also the Steeda billet aluminum version available, which is trick but more expensive.

The last time I chatted with Brent about it he said he was in the middle of doing a lot of testing on this mod specifically. He said he was having good results so far. He specifically recommended the mod if you had already swapped gears, and thereby were working in the upper RPM range of the motor.
