I would look at it as giving it time to see if there is anything wrong with it before you "drive it like you stole it"...
Truth is somewhere inbetween - it doesn't take as long as it used to, but it isn't "0" either...
Rings and rears take "a few" hundred miles to "seat" - so I was nice (without any steady speed) for 500 and then less nice until 1K and now I drive it like a stole it...
Your mileage may vary (literally)

Let it warm up. Take it out and vary your RPMs through the range and change gears alot for 20 miles or so then drive it how you want, just let it warm up. You dont have to flog it you just want to work all the rpms and gears.
