Default purchasing for MSRP

I'm sorry to make this my first post, so flame away if you need to... I'm hoping to make a few friends here, but maybe this is a bad way to start...

I went to a dealer today hoping to buy my first Mustang GT. They have $3000 over MSRP as a Denver area adjustment price. I told them flat out that I wouldn't pay that, and eventually got them to drop that. Now I have a deposit down on a 2007 for MSRP... it's a $29,190 vehicle. I've never paid MSRP for a vehicle before, but they're trying to tell me that they don't sell under msrp for GTs because they're rare here. Are they just trying to pull the wool over my eyes?

Thanks guys,

Mike

I think that's absolute garbage they're handing you. In Canada right now, you can buy off the lot or order any 2007 Mustang, 6 cyl or GT, including California Special which I just got, for about 13-14% off MSRP under Ford's "Family Pricing" incentive scheme.

Tell the Denver dealers to take a hike. [:'(]

I call BS on MSRP... Maybe in '05 and early on in '06. Not for an '07 or later model '06. There are some fantastic deals out there on '06s now and I hear there are dealers in the St. Louis area offering thousands off MSRP on '06s. I'd bet they saw you and though they'd make up for the proverbial bath they're taking on their '06 inventory. Even if you don't qualify for one of their "family" plans (a,b,c,Xplan, etc), you should be able to do better than MSRP, let alone $3k above MSRP. I'd go to forddirect.com and do some serious quote requesting for about 500-mile radius and go back armed with about 6-quotes on exactly what you want. Then ask them if they are interested in selling you a car at a competitive price. I'd also ask to speak to the Internet Sales guy, as opposed to the standard sales rep. Show him your quotes from other dealers. I bet you can get at least $2k off MSRP and maybe more with a little internet quoting....

I'm 30...

Okay, so you got yours with no dealer markup, but did you get anything off msrp?

Thanks,

Mike

Most of us paid MSRP, and we all lived to tell about it. I bought mine last October and am still alive. Lots of popular cars sell at sticker. The car is totally worth it. This topic has been covered maybe 12,387 times, and there is still only about $1,900 mark-up in a loaded GT. That's about 7%. Not 14%. Don't be like some of these guys that go through life stressing over whether a dealer made a profit. They'll yell and scream and call dealers names for making anything on a sale, then the next day, they'll lay-down on some accessory or set of wheels, and totally forget that they paid an even larger profit! Go figure. Buy the car and enjoy it.

I just put in a request on forddirect.com, and it said it sent one request to the dealer I was already working with.... that didn't help.

X-Plan. But even without it, they weren't selling for MSRP.

Hey Mike, welcome. I am not sure how things work in Denver but I would definatley drive to a neighboring state if need be. I got my brand new 2006 at $25150...I then lost my $1500 rebate (which ford is offering still) b/c I went with the special financing at 1.9% (which ford still has) When I did the math I came out ahead without the rebate b/c the prime rate was a little higher then 7%..and that was with a 820 + credit score.

I hear that big deals will be coming around labor day...

Also ask to see the invoice of the car they are trying to sell you....you shouldn't pay more than $300 over...

One other tip, the way I went about finding my car is I google'd all the Ford dealers w/n a 200 mile radius and made an offer over the net...I explained what I wanted to pay and if they could make it happen to contact me...Bill Utter Ford in Corinth, TX (just outside of dallas) took my offer...it was that simple.

Good luck.
Let us know.

P.S. If you go about finding a car the way I did make up a new email address...I am still getting crap from dealers.

Mike.
