Deciding between SLPs, American Thunders, Corsa - Opinions?
A little backstory first....like many others, I just traded in my v6 and got a windveil blue 06 GT thanks to the 0% deal. It's an automatic, but I'm better off that way anyway. I had dual MRTs on my v6 with headers and a Pro-Chamber. I liked the sound outside the car, but the resonance inside got old, and I'll admit it - it didn't help a headache lol. My first mod on the GT will be mufflers, then I'll be getting it painted. (I'll post pics when she's ready
)
Having a v6 and suffered from GT exhaust envy, I want to get this one right. My two top choices are either the Flowmaster American Thunders or the Corsa ones. (I'm open to other ideas though) I liked the way the American Thunders sounded in this video - http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...lers/index.php - but I had some questions that I was hoping you guys could help me out with:
For anyone who has them, how deep are they compared to the video?
How loud are they compared to stock? I want something that will be noticed - it doesn't have to scream though.
Will you notice them outside of the car at idle and cruising speeds? I've heard that the Corsas are only noticible when you get on it. I'd like to pull up to a light on my way to work and for the guy next to me to know I have a modded exhaust.
Drone & Resonance - the article claims that they don't have drone, but I've heard that they do...is it bad? I have an auto, and I'm not sure how that will affect it.
Basically, I want to have a tough engine-based exhaust note that enhances what I have now. I'd like it to be there somewhat all of the time, not just when I'm getting on it. I'm proud of my car, and I want it to get noticed. I like them loud, but they don't have to be super-loud, you know?
Thanks for your help guys!
(my sig will be fixed soon lol)
*edit*
Okay, I have to add to this post. I listened to some clips of the SLP Loudmouths and they seem to be the sound that I'm looking for and have no drone. I just have to ask - how loud are these things? I just don't want to be pulled over for them lol. It'll be my daily driver in NJ. My exhaust before was pretty loud, and I wasn't pulled over at all, so I think I'll be okay. (it wasn't a GT though) One more thing - will I be able to have a conversation in the car with them on?
Thanks again...

chidrock,
Well, I know I go against the grain of many on the site, but I love my Flowmaster AT's. Granted, several people have had issues with internal breakage with the Flows, but I personally have not.
The Flowmaster clip you attached, to me, is a bit quieter than real life. They start out slightly louder than stock, as with the video, but basically come to life with some miles on em. The are definately noticable at a stop sign, without being terribly obnoxious.....Here is a clip I did awhile back. I think you will notice a slight difference from the factory vid....Starts a bit slow, but stay with it....

ml it's funny that you posted that because I was listening to that same clip when I checked the replies on here lol.
I think it's really between the American Thunders and the LMs. The Corsa's are a bit much for me when I have these two options.
How's the drone on your ATs? I heard that it happens around 1800 rpms and since I have an auto, that will probably be my hour-long trip to work. It's cool that they can be noticed when I'm sitting at a traffic light. Plus, the black mufflers will match my blue-black color scheme I have planned for the car. Oh yeah, and the part that really sold me was when you took around that turn!
Here's the clip of the Loudmouths that I was checking out. http://www.lmperformance.com/5535/73.html I thought my MRTs were loud, these are crazy! The only problem is that they're just the right sound for me, if only the volume could be turned down a notch. It seems like I'd have every ricer within a mile trying to find me. (we have a lot of those in NJ lol) On the other side, there are some loud Mustangs by me that definitely walk the walk. It'd be nice to be in there, but I don't know if they're daily drivers.

I love my LMs.. theyre really nice at startup and cruising through town.. not too silent, not too loud. The guy next to you will be able to hear you have a nice exhaust system, especially if you raise your idle rpms a bit to around 900. I havent noticed what other people describe as "drone" so I cant say that the LMs have it for sure, but I also cant say they dont
But anyways, theyre not REALLY loud until you go WOT or get up to about 3000 rpms... if you drive on the highway, with the auto.. around 90 or so youll hit the 3k mark and it gives a nice loud roar when you pass people. Doesnt really get old or annoying to me but I guess that would depend on how long youre driving at 90.. I tend to drive about 80 on a highwat with 70 speed limit and it doesnt get annoying to me.. personally I think an exhaust on a muscle car should be heard and if its not then something is wrong.. JMO though.

Someone the other night said their friend was afraid to race me "Because you sound like a fuggin drag car when you launch."
Nuff said.

Thanks American muscle. Those videos are nice, but do the SLP's NO justice.. they sound alot better in person and they dont pop like that once they get warmed up
BTW... I had a friend say "dude chicks might not want to ride with you because your exhaust is so loud.." and all I had to say was "any chick that doesnt love my exhaust as much as I do, doesnt DESERVE to ride with me!"

Any girl who doesnt appreciate an exhaust that sounds that sexy, isnt worth the time nor the effort. End of Story.
