Is 5W20 Synthetic the equal to 5W30 Conventional? If not, why go 520 over 530?

1. Synthetic
2. 4000-5000. Depends on what else I have on my plate that week (I drive ~700/week).
3. Only on my first oil change but Mobil 1 so far. Will likely order some Royal Purple this week (anyone know of any good deals?).
4. Mobil 1, Motorcraft.

Even though the dealer threw in a 2 year maintenance warranty, I do it myself. That way I know it's done properly and I don't have to drop my car off for the better part of a day at the dealer.

I don't let those flunkies at the quick lubes or the dealers touch any of my cars. I do it myself. I will continue to do it myself until my arthritis makes it where I can't!

Two times--once at a quickie lube and once at the dealer, have the idiots used LOCTITE on the damn drain plug making it damn near impossible to get out!

For the GT I use Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synthetic blend and a Motorcraft FL820A filter. Both I get at WalMart and it costs me about $15 an oil change.

Why 5w20, instead of the manufacturer recommended 5w30?

Mine will be going back to the dealership, but for only ONE reason. The dealership I purchased my car from offers a 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty if I have my oil changes done there. Normally, I would do it myself (with Mobil 1 oil, and because I prefer doing it myself with my preferred oil), but I figure for that kind of warranty, it might be worth it.

chances are it was the loctite strength simply meant to keep it from backing out...

The manufacturer recommends 5W-20, not the other! It is marked on your oil cap.

It's 5W20 for the GT and 5W30 for the V6.
