Default Downshift speeds?

What gears does everyone downshift to (at given speeds) when getting on it on the highway?

40MPH?

60MPH?

75MPH?

This is assuming you have the stock 3.55 gear, and a 5-speed GT.

Just curious....

I think either downshifting or upshifting is very relative to not only a driving style/habit, but a particular mood. If I'm feeling sporty I'll downshift early and let the revs creep up, but most of the time I downshift from 5th to 3rd while slowing and then push the clutch in before a stop leaving it in third to about idle.

A lot of people don't know this, but it's easier on the car if you wait to put it into first until you've come to a complete or almost complete stop. Alot of people I ride with like to shove it into first before they are even close to their stop and still rolling 20-30mph....this is not only stupid, it's hard on the car.

When you downshift is certainly going to vary on conditions and moods, but on average I'll downshift from5th to 3rd at about 50mph while somewhat slowly engaging the clutch to keep it smoothe.

There will be a big variance of answers to this question, but I'd say go with what's comfotable not just for you, but mostly for the car.

ONLY DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST WHEN YOUR 10MPH OR LESS OR IT HURTS YOUR CAR!!!CALLED FORD ABOUT IT.

IF I WANT TO HAUL AS* i down shift from 40 at 4th and go down to 2nd, its kind of a rough downshift though.

when im at 60, i down shift from 5th to 3rd and accelerate, same thing for 75mph

Another tip is to give it gas just before you drop it down a gear....that helps match the gears up for an easier shift....again, easier on the tranny.

When I say gas it...you gotta do this with the clutch in.....didn't want somebody trying this and then flying off the off-ramp......"swensicle told me to."

If you want max power the fastest, its going to be a "harder downshift.

40mph- 2nd gear; which will put you around 4-4500rpm; which is a great area to be in for a ds if you want to acc the fastest

60-3rd gear even though the rpm will be about 3500ish.

75- you could put it in 4th to to acc a lil bit; but 3rd will put you about 4500rpm.

*make sure to rev match when down shift so hard*
