ORIGINAL: vocoat

I put in two bottles of Fords Friction additive. Took care of the problem.
You had the groan and it went away after you added the friction additive? If so where can I get some of this stuff? I've been thinking about taking mine to the dealership about this again but I'm more interested in a permanent solution.

Yes..i actually had the clutch packs replaced(TSB) but the noise came back. A well know mechanic (rearend specialist)in my area recomened the two bottles of ford friction additive and so far its been fine!..Noise went away immediately. You can buy the stuff at any parts counter( Ford dealer) Make sure you remove some lube to make room for the friction additive.

That's strange. I had this problem when I first got my car in May, and I just ignored it. I think it's completely gone away now, I had forgotten all about it until I read this thread.

Oh man, this thread is totally depressing. I've got an 06 GT and I've always wondered why it made these strange noises when it was warmed up on slow turns. Now I know. C'mon Ford, you're telling me you couldn't fix this by the second year of production? How about any 07 owners, is this STILL happening to your Mustangs?

i will be getting a set of new gears some time in the future, so i decided to experiment with this sound and decided to ignore it for some time. it's been 4 months now and it has gotten worse as everyone here knows. it got louder and i can also feel resonance through the car. i decided to ignore it because a ford tech told me it wasn't causing any damage to the car. i'm kinda guessing that it could be solved by adding this ford friction additive and also changing the differential's oil. i'm guessing this because the sound it makes now is like if the diff is just completely dry. i just hope i can fix it with this oil change and the friction additive, because if it really damaged my ring & pinion's pattern then i'm probably screwed.
just for the ones that wish to know, it got to this state like 2 months ago and this last 2 months it hasn't got worse.

I noticed the same noise when the car is warm and making a slow left hand turn. I have 7,200 miles and been driving with the noise for about 300-400 miles.

The mechanic at the dealer knew exactly what it was when I took him for a test drive. They ordered a new "clutch pack" that is supposedly redesigned. Hopefully I will get it put in the end of the week. The mechanic said this not only happens with Mustangs, but also trucks with limited slip. He has replaced several. Hopefully he will get mine done right.

That was good info on the additive.

Thanks.

Well I tried another bottle of friction modifier and the moan did not go away. Looks like I'm getting the clutches packs replaced. Detroit tru-lock.... maybe. Hey has anyone put the ford racing cover on. I through that are car used 3 pints of fluid? yes. I think my installer used only 2 and said it was full and gave me one bottle of P.R. back. It ran fine too.

What kind of noise exactly is this groan?
anyone have a sound clip?

I have a noise but I am not sure if this is it or not.

However... I had my stock gears replaced with ford racing 4.10s and also have had the clutch replaced with
a SPEC 2+ Clutch and a SPEC flywheel. So could this still be my problem or no?

is the noise you have like a low pitched whine that happens usually at low rpms?

It's the sound of bad clutch packs.
