How to use a tuner?
O.K. so I am a newb. I am just getting into mods. I know for starters you can get one with a tune for a cai. after theat how do you know how to tune? example - you get a udp- tune? if so how do you know what to change? - long tube headers- ? same questions. I know that for most mods that change hp you need a tune to adjust the fuel:air ratio, but when it comes to specifics I'm lost. and yes i did try searching. it is just difficult if you don't know the what you are looking for exactly. most tunes only refer to cai- and from what i read it seemed like theat was mostly plug and play. thanks for any replies.
I will have pics coming- right now my car is getting its hood painted.

O.K. so I found the sticky on tunes. SCT is the most popular one I see. Brent speed is a good place to get tunes from. Do you call them with the list of parts you wish to install and they send you a tune for it? How much do tunes cost? How do you get them into your tuner?

I personally use a Diablo, but I had a talk with Brenspeed today about cams that I ordered from them. If you get tuner with tunes from them, they will update your tune free if you buy future upgrades from them. These are e-mailed tunes. I went the other route and get mine dyno-tuned specifically for my car.

Piece of cake. Most tuners come with three preloaded tunes for 87, 89 and 93 octanes. All you do is connect it to the OBDII port under the dash and download the tune that you want. 5 minutes later you drive away!

What to do with a tuner? EASY....
#1 - drive the car to a known tuner
#2 - ask him to tune your car
Anything else is stupid IMHO. The tune is the single most important factor of your car working properly. It is not the place to skimp or try to investigate and learn from...

RE: How to use a tuner?
I should have pointed out that a canned tune from a reputable shop like brenspeed, bamachips, evolution, etc. is just as good. You would then say there is a 100% truth to it...lol
The point was never try to tune your car yourself unless you REALLY know what you are doing...
