Tire Question
Im about to get new KDW2's for my Stang. What is the benefit of having smaller tires on the front?.....like if i had 275's on the back and 245's on the front like some people have on thier Stangs.
You need to make sure when going with two different sized tires that the overall Height of each tire is close enough not to trigger the ABS light. Usually within .5" I went with my setup because i do not want a 40 series and a 30 series tire as it looks funny. And BFG had two tires that are almost identical in height so that is what i went with.
I am running a 285/30rear and a 245/35 front. I went with this setup because i wanted a wider tire out back and liked the look of it. And i cannot fit a 285/30 up front

The benefit seems to be more of a look thing. Most say you can fit a wider rim and tire out back than the front. So to keep the same overall diameter, if you have a 285/40/18 out back a 255/45/18 will have the same diameter in the front.
Anytime you increase the width of the front tires on these stangs you should improve the understeer characteristics. Turn in should be sharper and the car shouldn't plow/push through the turns as much at higher speeds. If the rear tires are wider than the fronts, the frontswill give way sooner in turns but your overall speed will be higher because you have more grip than the skinny 235s that were on there to begin with.
Also, tire makers don't make each tire in every size possible so if you want the KDWs, nittos, kumho, etc. you may have to get 275/40/18 out back and 245/45/18 in front.

sorry for stealing your tread, but I was wondering how you guys like the kdw's for traction/wear? I am looking for new tires for my 05gt and want something that has great traction. I run 17" rims and will be getting a 255\50 and 235\55 in the front. Thanks.
Well rigth now i have 275 / 40 /18 Coopers all the way around on 18x 10 Roush rims. I was just wondering why some people put thinner tires on the front. I think im gonna stick with 275 all the way around so i can rotate them and get longer tire life. And from what i here the KDW2's grip like theres no tomorrow and have a good shelf life

I love the KDW's as they do grip well and are quiet! If you are drag racing and the front tires are skinny that is a weight savings as opposed to running the same front and back! Not much steering required for a straight line!
