cold air intake
New to the forum and need some help. I would like to get a CAI that gives the most hp increase without the need of a tune. Is anyone familiar with Granatelli's CAI? I have read that you can gain 25 rwhp without a tune, because they supply a new MAF sensor. Anyonehave experience with this unit? Is it worth an extra $150 over the price of the K&N Aircharger?
Thanks for any help.

RE: cold air intake
im not sure of how garenteed that 25 hp from the Granatelli's CAI is... i would just suggest getting a CAI with a tune because for future mods (such as gears) a tune will be very helpful... and you have the option of changing the fuel grade and you can download tunes... i think that a tune and an intake would give you much more options in the future for mods... just my opinion though

RE: cold air intake
it's definately a better looking piece than the K&N (I have one)
I don't know if I believe 25hp increase [:@]The K&N claims 15,and my butt dyno says close - but not quite
the GMS is beneficial in that you can remove their maf later and retune. the K&N is the same size opening as the factory tube. a tune doesn't help near as much as with other cai's.
If i had it to do over again I would get the GMS

The Granatelli kit is actually well worth the money. It's one of the only kits that comes with a Calibrated MAF that doesn't require a tune. They did have some issues at one point sending out MAF adaptors that were calibrated wrong but they took care of the issue right away and all of our customers got a replacement right away. As far as 25rwhp goes I would say closer to the 20rwhp mark but there is definitely a good increase in performance over stock intake system that can be felt.
Honestly you will gain more from a Intake and tuner kit such as the JLT and Xcal/Predator combo or C&L combo but if money is tight the GMS kit is a perfect option for ya. Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with. Thanks, Jared

Thanks for the help. I just want to get the most bang for my buck without getting divorced. You married guys know what I mean . . . The GMS CAI costs about $450. How much would the JTL / Predator combo run me? How much HP / Torque increase could I expect? Do you have to use premium fuel when you have a tune? As I said, I want the most bang for my buck, but I want to do it right. Once again, thanks for all of the help.

RE: cold air intake
Brenspeed has the JLT 2 with SCT XCAL2 and three custom tunes of your choice for $554. You'd get better gains with that then you would with the Granatelli.
Plus you can get different tunes for either 87, 89, 91, 93 octanes.
