Default CAI Question!

I do not have the money to buy a intake and tune at the same time anytime soon. But i do have money to get just a intake i ran into a guy that had a BBK cold air intake on his car and he said it works fine with out the tune and he noticed a difference. Is this true because i thought you needed a tune with all intakes? So my question is, is what intakes can i buy that do not need a tune and if i will notice a difference?

If i remember correctly, running an intake without a tune isn't the greatest idea. You either run rich or lean, i can't remember what i read. However, the Granatelli intake boast that you do not need a tune. Heres the link

But why would some intakes not require a tune and others do?

Intake that doesn't need a tune = they don't make a drastic airflow increase to screw up some things, therefore those CaI´s are not worth it.
Good CaI´s are the ones that need a tune cuz of the difference in air going into the engine = more hp !

Thats just my opinion, I might be wrong.
Anyway i would just save up some cash for the combo! If you're going to do it, better do things right!

Yup.

The ones that don't need a tune are like that because they just don't increase airflow much. If a CAI is a good one, and does what it should do, then it will require a tune.

Save your money and buy a CAI+tuner+tune combo

If you don't have the cash flow why not buy the programmer and tune first. Later when you have more cash buy the intake and get an updated tune for it.

YUP!

You notice the lack of bills in your wallet...

If you are sooo close to the poverty line that you have to price tuners and CAIs, you shouldn't be worried about any of it... go earn some more money and then re-attack... if you are counting every dollar, you should not be spending ANY of them on your CAR!
