you cant...most guesstimates Ive heard are adding 10~15% for sticks, 15~20% for automatics, but anything will be an estimate...only way to know for sure would be pull the motor and dyno it- or find someone that has ran a motor only on a dyno, then chassis dynoed afterwith same tranny/gears as youand see what their parisitic losses were thru the driveline- that would be pretty consistent...

No way to calculate it,there ispower loss through the drivetrain usuallyassumed to be about 15% for manuals and 17% for automatics. I might be wrong about those numbers, but that's pretty close. So

RWHP = CHP((100-15)/100) or CHP((100-17)/100)

+1 to above. That is the easy way to get a guess.

Ok, Lets say my math skills are crap................

If some one has 280 RWHP what is the best guess at crank Hp?

330 crank HP if you are going by a 15% loss (280/x = 85/100.....28000/85 = x......x = 329.something)

(280/15%=42 + 280=322 crank hp) i think...But then again i just got a D in precal (long story, but im going to fight that grade)
