Default Cheap Headers

Thoughts? I know Flowtech was coming out with some cheap headers. I did some searching and it seems that Hedman is a respected brand in headers. They are full length and have a 1 3/4 main pipe. Only downside is they are painted steel...

I think this might be a time for " you get what you pay for" Painted steel?? that sounds like they would start flaking off by the end of the track.....JMO. I have titanium coated shorty JBA's they still look brand new., downside is they were $799

Yeah those are a cheap price but painted steel will only give you grief!Spend about 150 more and get the MAC 1 3/4 cermaic coated headers. They are much better but not crazy priced either.I bought them & they look sweet!

It depends on if you ever want to show off your engine. The ones you are looking at will rust and not last as long. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

As has already been said, you get what you pay for.

Oh, and $799 for shorties???? The ceramic coated SS LTs I'm looking at are about $810.

10 or 12 years ago ceramic coating was hardly sold. Now everybody insists upon it. If your car isn't a show queen - go for it. Everybody acts like painted steel will rot away in a couple years. It's not that big of a deal. With the exception of a pair of shorties I have always run plain old Hooker's. My 82' GT had them on it when I bought it, and they weren't rusted when I sold it 4 years later.

I will say however, that EVERY pair of Hedmans I have dealt with has leakedat either collector. I would go with Hookers.

Yeah sad but true......the ceramics were $569 I believe, the titanium's were $799. They look cool, and that's about all I got for the extra 200 bones. I am trying to turn my car into a show car on the weekends though, that's why I don't mind throwing an extra few hundred into "appearance mods". As far as what I was told by people around here (local shops andgoing to thetrack), LT's were $999 and I was told would only gain me an extra 2-3HP. The shorties with the blower gave me on 2 seperate pulls a gain of 21 and 24RWHP. That was with stock pipes, and Magnaflows for the axlebacks.

Honestly I don't care about looks, I'm probably going to wrap them up to try to keep underhood temps lower, so the pipes are going to look the same regardless if they are TI, Stainless, or some amazingly expensive space age metal.

Good to hear your experiences Rodeo

Well, if looks aren't a concern, go with the one that doesn't empty the wallet. When I said they wouldn't last as long, I wasn't talking about falling apart tomorrow. I've got steel shorties on my truck that have been there around 7 years (Pacesetters I think.) They look like Hell but they haven't fallen off which is more than I can say about the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds.
