5 speed "clanking Noise"

RE: 5 speed "clanking Noise"
You have a noisy differential, connected to a noisy 2-piece driveshaft, that's connected to an incredibly noisy transmission.
There's a fair amount of slop in the drivetrain on these cars (some have more than others).
That, combined with the drive-by-wire and poor throttle response can lead to some frustrating (and embarassing) shifts.
As you get more familiar with it (and it's attendant clunks, clanks, and pops) you'llget a good idea of whento feather the clutch to avoid most of those noises.

I get a "clank / clunk" too, but not from a driving shift. I could be just sitting there in N, shift into 1st and it makes a pretty loud clunk. The noise happens right when the gear hits, even before the clutch is let up. Is that normal?

Are you pushing the clutch pedal all the way in?
I forgot I remember having a car with that problem, I had to shift another gear 2nd 3rd before moving the shifter to 1st to get rid of the problem.

yeah, definatley all the way. just the second the shift **** hits into the gear, it clunks pretty loud, then if I were to pull it back to N, and go back to the same gear the same way, there's no clunk.

I get the same clunks in my car, except it happens when i am shifting gears. right when i push the clutch in ( power stoppign to trans) it makes a clank. Just extra space in the tranny right?
