Default Hot Hot under the dash

I'm a newbie to this site so please excuse if this has been asked about before. My 05 GT Coupe 5speed gets real hot under the dash even when the heater is totally off.The black box shaped area behind the console will burn your hand if you touch it.I took in to the dealer when new about 2 years ago and they did not have an answer.Any ideas?

welcome

i'm thinking that if the dealership was not alarmed by
the heat, then you are probably ok. i have no idea what
is behind the console, maybe it is an amp for the door
sub woofers? i know that amps can get very hot, but it's
not dangerous

If you look up under the car you will see how close the Catalytic Converters (Cats) are to your front floor panels. they have heat shields there but thatis not cutting it. I have noticed the difference since I had my Cats removed.

Anyway, that is what I attributed the excess heat to. I may be wrong but I know it's better now.

Thanks for the replies and ideas.I'm thinking about maybe a heater core bypass installation under the hood.I could see if the factory designed the system without a way to prohibit hot water from entering the heater core.Maybe they tried to save money.I'll need to look real close.I know on most cars you can see the cable come from the dash side of rhe firewall that controls a valve in the engine bay area.My luck it will be hidden deep in the guts.If I'm able to do a bypass and that solves the problem then I'm good to go.If not, then it sure could be the cats.Anyone know if the 07's have this hot under the dash problem? The black heater box area will fry your hand if you touch it when the car has been running for a good while.
