Default overheating?

so it's been hot in philly the last few days. but nothing much worse than what i have been driving in for a while.

last night on the way home i felt the AC going from cool air to warm air to cool air. then i noticed my engine temp guage was all the way over to the HOT level. I pulled over popped the hood and checked the coolant level. it seemed fine. let it sit for a while. start her up again and within 5 miles of driving the temp guage is back to normal center position.

i checked the coolant level this morning before i started the car and it is right in the middle of the cold fill level.

this morning i didnt run the AC at all and about 20 minutes into the drive the gauge goes to the hot level again. i decided to unload the evo performance 93 octane tune and load the stock tune in. after sitting about ten minutes i started her up again, and while the gauge wasn't lit up red it was still near the H. by the time i got to work, maybe 6-7 miles of driving the temp guage is back to normal.

i have the C&L cold air intake, and aside from the frpp axle back exhausts the car is stock.

any ideas whats going on?
should i put the stock air box back in and take it in for service?

I had a similar experience with my 'stang, and it was as simple as the fuse that controls the radiator fans being blown. As far as putting your stock airbox back on goes, that just depends on how friendly your dealer is.

Ditto, your fans are wired to come on at a certain temp (I think it is 190º) and if the fuse goes, then not having the fans will overheat everytime. I personally wired my fans (trans and regular) to be on all the time. I just turn the key to the on position and I know instantly if they are working or not. It also comes in handy at the track cause I can leave my key on for 5 minutes and cool the car down to almost ice cold.

I forgot to plug my fans back in after my UDP install[:@]

Wasnt until a few months later when temps got warmer out and I got stuck in traffic did i notice. The temp guage was at the H and I was freaking out stuck in traffic with nowhere to pull over.
I had no choice but to turn on the heat and make my way thru traffic, once I got moving she cooled down right away, then I pulled over and noticed the plug just hanging there. [sm=icon_flaming.gif]
