Default Transmission update

I called level10 and they said I had to remove the transmission and ship it to them. They would "bullet proof" it and send it back for 4000 bucks!!! Are they kidding me? So I don't know what to do. I don't want to take it to the dealer, because it will just be stock again and break over time again. Very frustrating sometimes having a new vehicle and people tell you they don't make rebuild kits for our tranny's, because they are too new.

dont deal with level10. the RSX's never had success with them.

I got my auto transmission completely rebuilt and overhauled for $3k from IPT on my boosted RSX auto. So far, on 10k miles it held up very well. ipttrans.com. give them a call and see what they can do for you. I'm also running their high-stall TC.

Can you be a bit more detailed about how your current trans messed up? Did u run a ATF cooler, Amsoil synthetic ATF, deep trans pan from brenspeed, etc?

Dont know the exact situation but you can get a new tranny cheap and do the install yourself possibly......

I would do a swap with a t56 tranny I think.....I though you could get them pretty cheap in a kit (under 3k)

My transmission is completely stock. I'm not sure what all is wrong with it, because I haven't had it apart. It is slipping, firm shifts are gone, and it's vibrating. I will check out your info guys. Thanx

well, from that, right off the back i can say the culprit was HEAT.

I took it to a shop and the guy said the fluid smelled funny, so you must be right. I do remember once in a while of getting a whiff of something that smelled like hot brakes. Wasn't the brakes I quess lol
The transmission shop wants to fix it, but he wants to "beef it up". The problem he said is that noone makes a performance upgrade kit for it yet. No sense in rebuilding it with the same stock parts.

yup, sounds like the fluid couldnt handle the heat, and clutches burnt out. What your trans repairman is looking for is a "shift kit" or overhaul kit.

give IPT a call and see if they have complete trannies for you. Also, see if they have a trade-in special or something. They can rebuild your current trans for later sale.

from this, i STRONGLY recommend running Amsoil ATF for any boosted autos (even manuals) out there. I've had and seen first hand how better this fluid handles heat. In my rsx, after a hard run, it would start slipping. But with Amsoil, it never slipped again. If anyone wants amsoil at dealership prices, i can get them for ya. (not making profit, just offering to not waste my dealership status)

From what I have seen and read since Ive been on this forum(not very long) the only company beefing up the 5r55s's is level10 at this point and nobody is yet selling a kit that I know of either. I'm not running boost and not having any tranny issue's though. The 5r55s weakpoint isshifting to 3rd and 4th which are both synchronous shifts vs. the 4r70w and c4 synchronous shift only into 3rd, also it's a little smallermaking it inherently weaker. Hammeron posted an article on this very subject in another thread and it was great read imo. They tested the auto trans from stock up to I believe about 450rwhp. I'd search for it but I'm still at work.

Almost any performance trans company can rebuild and beefen your tranny b/c its not composed of actual "kits". They may not advertise it, but they can do it. I see Level10 advertise everywhere about them building trannies but i have yet to see one run right. rsx auto=fail, scion tc/xa/xb=fail, yet they still advertise a lot. IPT and Protorque are known in the DSM/Suburau world, and it wouldnt hurt giving them a call and inquire b/c IPT does not update their site.

I guess its from things i've seen online that i'm weary of Level10, but i'm still a huge n00b to the domestic performance world.
