Im just curious what someone with a saleen s/c could do at the 16 psi mark or whatever the max is with long tubes and whatnot?

 

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure JDM has one that is over 1000!

i'll guesstimate the practical max rwhp, at 500.

 

well i called jdm and talked to ryan. He said on there built bottom end (stock cams) + long tubes on 93 octane they did 581 rwhp and 623 rwhp on racing gas on the 3.0 pulley. I have a built 302 motor im not sure if i want to stop on the 580 rwhp or go for more, i know some of the other superchargers can go higher psi, im just not sure how much higher they can go in the rwhp range..

 

When you start getting to that power and psi level, recent evidence points to the TB being the limiting factor. See posts by fordfanboy on the subject.

 

It's no secret that I HATE JDM, but I give credit were credit is due and they know how to tune a saleen. That blue customer car saw about 600 rwhp at it's best. That car was also trailered EVERYWHERE it went and in now way was a daily driven street car. Despite being a fully built car, it also broke several times (as documented in several mags at shootouts) so take that for what it's worth.

The truth is the saleen should be able to hang in the upper 580-590 rwhp range before it's just too much for that blower. 14-15 psi is about the limit of efficiency on this particular blower. No one I have heard of has been able to get the blower over 16 psi without it falling on it's face (JDM Included)

Most everyone in the know agrees that if you are looking for 600+ rwhp, then the saleen is not the best choice. KB, Turbo, or Procharger F1 is where you go for that kind of power.

BTW: The 1000 hp car JDM is building is NOT THE SAME BLUE CAR (which doesn't even belong to JDM BTW - it is a customer car that they borrowed for almost 2 years!) It is a Ford GT supercar 5.4 motor and is not really impressive considering Whipple's big kit made almost 1500 rwhp on the same motor...

 

Correct a mundo. Trouble is there is no big TB/intake upgrade for the Saleen kit yet. Thus the Saleen troubles with holding big psi. The design of the s/c kit makes it tough for a big kit to be developed so it's iffy if there will ever be one.

 

brenspeed did a customer saleen s/c car thats was limited to 600 hp.

 

slap on water/meth injection and turn ignition up. easily make more power.
