Emissions or Programming
I've searched in here before and either nobody has answered it or the thread gets hi-jacked. But here goes.
My one big complaint[:@] is the startup rpms. Not the netreul, or drive rpms but when the car is cold and you start it up, sounds like pedal is pushed to the floor momentarily. And of course as it warms up, the rpms fall down to around 800 or 900 rpms. I know that's normal as part of either emissions or factory programming.
My question is, can it be changed? I've been told its part of the emissions control to warm up the cats. Any truth to this? I'm getting another tuner in the near future, can I change something in the addntl parameters, "other" than netreul and drive rpms?
Normally when I leave my house I leave the car in reverse, so right after the garage door opens I start it up and let the clutch slightly, to put it under load so it pulls the rpms down immediatley. Too dam loud otherwise.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

The initial rev your talking about is from the cold start injector/programming and cannot be changed. When the engine is cold, fuel doesn't atomize as well. To combat this lack of properly prepped fuel, the computer adds extra fuel to burn. Once the fire catches in the cylinder, the inital burn burns off this extra fuel in one or two combustion cycles and produces that intial rev your talking about. If you did away with this feature, you would likely have to crank your car for 10 to 30 seconds (depending on setup and how cold it is) to get it to fire up. During this time, your engine is spinning with little to no oil pressure and is really the most damaging time an engine sees.
As for the high idle, this is to bring the engine up to operating temperature and really has little to do with the cats or emissions. Those heat up as a function of the engine exhaust. If you did away with the high idle for warm up, your car would idle like an old carberated car that had no choke in the winter... which if you have never had the pleasure... well, lets just say your missing out on some fun... [&:]
I've never seen a handhelod tuner setup that will change either of these parameters... Thats not to say there's not one out there, but I've never run across one. I know a couple of the tuner shop setups that will change it but I doubt you want to lay out for one of those.

Thanks GT Bob, excellent information there. So its confirmed it reasonably cannot be changed. What about people with cams? That's a mod somewhere down the road I want.
Fortunately I do remember carberated cars in the winter, had a few myself and agree, don't want to go back to that. I know the rpms don't take long to come down, its just irritating.
I've already been written up by my condo association for excessive noise, back when I had a stock H and Pypes Violators. Dang nabit, its the retirees, they're out to get me. Buit its ironic, the day I got that letter my MRT H arrived 10 mins after I read it. I did the responsible thing, tore up the letter, said F### IT, and made it louder. Suprisingly its been a quiet past 5 months, maybe they're plotting.
