Default dead battery

how many else of you have had battery problems? i have an 05 GT and twice my battery has died completely dead and had to be replaced. The idiot at the dealership measured the voltage of the battery rather than the cold crank amps and just decided that i needed a new battery, but the car definitely has a draw somewhere else. i heard online somewhere that if you dont manually turn off the radio before exiting the car, the amplifiers stay on and kill the battery. does anyone else have this problem, cause i heard that its pretty common, at least on '05s

I make sure I turn the Shaker off before I get out on the car. I was having this problem but mine was do to something different (DTE FLI DATA ERR). Got the gauge cluster replaced. That didnt fix it so i need to get the car back to the dealer.

Good Luck

There is an old thread on this subject. It IS the shaker system draining the battery. I used to have this problem myself. I always make sure I turn the radio off before I turn the car off. No problems since.

I have the same problem with my 05 GT and i have been battling ford for a while on it now. I have gotten the whole shaker radio unit replaced and turn it off when i get out of the car, and it still died within 2 or 3 days after i left it. Ford doesnt know what the hell it is, and all they do is tokeep trying to replace my battery....which im on my forth one already. Very annoying problem!

yeah, and they charged me for it because it died on a sunday and guess what, they were closed. so i brought it in and the guy was like "this is an inferior aftermarket battery" and replaced it with one with less CCAs, all the while charging me 150 dollars for the whole thing. and it still doesnt solve the draw problem. needless to say, i was not happy haha

Get a new Optima Redtop Battery. They are expensive but they have 800 CCAmps compared to the stock battery's 500 CCA. Or you may want to consider a Yellow Top which is deepcycling, they are for offroad trucks with lots of lights and cars with big stereos and electronics.

Another recommendation is to first switch from the CD mode to the Radio mode, and then turnthe stereo unitoff before turning the engine off.

Yea i recently had a power drain scare. But it wasnt the battery.. well kind of. The battery seems to be leaking out acid. And now the coupling that stays on the terminal is almost gone. I have the shaker 1000 unit and my battery hasnt died... yet.

Hey batmobile, do you have the shaker 1000? I have the 500 and haven't had any battery trouble.

I just replaced my wifes battery today in her 2002 pt cruiser. bought the car new about this time of year in 2001. the battery still had life left in it, but it was taking longer to crank than it used to.

I have been wondering WTF has been happening. My car isnt a daily driver and 3 times I've went out to drive it and it was stone dead. I thought my radar detector had been draining the battery. I'm glad I read this.
