Default short throw shifters

I'm getting a stick shift soon and am trying to plan ahead for the money that my mods will be. The easy answer is the hurts but who has short throws, how hard to install and what kind (brand) is it? Did it help?

Had the hurst shifter and removed it, replaced with a Pro 5.0. Hurst looks great but I was not happy with the way that it worked, and to be honest I am still not thrilled with the Pro5.0

If you like the look of it, a Hurst shifter is a good cheap one to get. MGW is probably the best and most customizable but it is pretty expensive compared to others. The install is easy, I did mine in a little under and hour with a set of ramps in my driveway.

Don't you have a V6? I know Hurst makes a shifter for V6's, but I'm pretty sure that MGW's only work on GT's.

+1, but my understanding is that MGW is releasing the shifter for the 6 right now.......

Well thanks for the info so far guys, yes I plan on getting a stick soon. I am not at the track alot so is the short throw really that big a difference. I haven't had to deal with this ina long time so I'm guessing with the popularity of these short throws its very helpful. Oh I will be needing the short throw for the V8 too.[sm=burnout.gif][sm=happy046.gif]

my pro 5.0 is great. stiff going into 5th and reverse, but i think that's bc its better shifting from 2nd to 3rd so 5th is sort of sacrificed. others like Sactown have had problems as he mentioned w/ the pro 5.0. but nothing but good about the MGW. also my stock shifter **** didnt fit, so now i got a hurst T-handle on the pro 5.0 shifter.

I have a Pro 5.0 and love it. It was stiff at first but has loosened over time. Takes about an hour to install.

I had a Hurst for about 2 years but it got VERY stiff for some reason after installing an aftermarket clutch/flywheel and aluminum driveshaft (coincidence, I'm sure). I put the factory one back in and now just need to bleed the clutch properly....

You can't go wrong with the Hurst. But if you want a really short shift, I think you can adjust the MGW to be shorter than the Hurst.
