Default Strange tinny noise when cold

Anyone noticed a strange tinny noise from under the hood when their car is cold and driving along, sounds like wind shaking some bottle caps (strange I know), at first I thought it was just wind noise but nowI'm just wondering if it's the engine jacket water thermostat diaphragm starting to 'flutter' as the engine warms up, noise goes away when the engine is at working temp.

Thanks,

You should alway wait until the temperture needle start to move before you drive to give the oil a chance to warm up. I think the sound will go away.

Never noticed. Don't think I have the problem.

i always let my car warm up for 5-10 minutes in this 40-50 degree weather i won't move it until the needle is past the cold hash mark and still moving

Smart move Piggy...gotta let the oil get to the lifters before revving!

Umm, does Saleen put a different engine in their cars? I've never removed my cam covers but I'm pretty sure an OHC engine doesn't have lifters.

I don't think it's necessary to wait 5-10 minutes for the engine to warm up especially with using 5W20 oil. I do think it's important to confirm you have oil pressure before revving however. If you have oil pressure you have oil making it through the engine.

I have the exact same problem. I always let my car warm up. I start it with the remote starter and let it idle for 5 to 10 minutes. I then drive and that noise can last up to a half hour.
I made a post for this yesterday. The dealer has listened to it but can't pinpoint the problem yet. The worst thing is that we probably won't get anymore cold days for it to happen. I'll let ya know when they find out what it is.
