If you really want to know the deal on theevent data recorder, aka, "Black Box", go here - http://www.harristechnical.com/cdr.htm

The original question refers to the Spanish Oak and it's ability to have certain info retrieved. That is different than the Event Recorder. There are certain learned parameters than can be accessed by the dealer, but it really doesn't prove anything that can allow them to void the warrenty regarding driving habits.

so you are banking on the fact that in the event something happens where they try and access that, the penalty for tampering with it will be less than the penalty for whatever you did for them to want that info. I think you're right, now I need to know how to unplug it

The black box will only record data during an "event". Air bag deployment, or non air bag deployments. Those scenarios are outlined in the link above. As far as recording your 'driving habits', NO. It will not keep very much retrieveable data in its memory. Nobody can get into your car and see what you did last week, or last night for that matter. It doesnt work that way. The ECU only monitors its sensors to make sure everything is working properly and will let you know if something is wrong.
