I got one thing to say...
SUPER SNAKE

This post is nonsense and pointless to me, cause I won't be affording a GT500 anytime soon hahaha. Good luck with your decision though, whichever you choose!

To me it depends what you want and what your budget is.

If you have the cash and the interest I say get the GT 500. They have tons of performance potential. 700rwhp is great but is overkill for the street IMO. You will never get a street tire that can hook up. Top end pulls would be fun though.

If you just want a fun street car that you can mod the heck out of and would be happy in the 450-475rwhp range I say keep the GT. I think that power level makes a great DD and you can take 99% of whats on the road. This way you can do tons of visual mods and performance mods.

My personal goals are allowing me to build a car to my taste with great performance for less than the MSRP of a GT 500. If your goals are more than that it makes more sense to start with the GT 500.

Good luck,

We should all be so lucky as to have this kind of dilema.

My opinion is to go with the GT500. I don't think you can recoup your investment on a SC modded GT.

if money is no option, obviously get the gt500 for all the above reasons listed, and because it will hold its value AND because if u want a status symbol, thats it. Anyone can hop up a GT, but if u get the gt500, u got the real deal, and yes, i drove one and it is a beast.......U probably arent likely to encounter future mechanical problems like the people who have 10-11 psi superchargers, just my 2 cents.....The new ebony color looks sick with the silver stripes....

You go get you a GT500 and I'll keep dreaming about a super charger.
My fiance done turned into a wife and her bark has turned into a wicked bite.
BEWARE!

Since you appear to have the coin... GT500 is the answer.

All of your input is awesome - thanks to all! I don't think the money side of things would be too much of a problem as long as I downgrade the truck to something less substantial. That sucker was $40k itself and of course has some mods too. I think a Ford Edge (for her) and a GT500 would even out payment-wise. I'll have to use the old grand prix or old truck as a DD.

In all reality, the SC on the GT is probably more than enough power for a weekend cruiser. For some reason there isnt a track within 100 miles of me.

But like one of the OP said, it can be a few hundred bucks away from another 100hp and the sky is nearly the limit. I just started thinking, if I get blown on the GT would 10psi satisfy me forever or would I want to go forged someday? Going forged would definitely be getting right into the shelby range.
