Default Windage Tray HP

Just received the latest Moss Mustang catalog. They have a windage tray in it in which they claim it gains 15 hp over stock by reducing splash on the crankshaft. I know that splash on they crankshaft has some effect but a 15 hp gain??

I'm interested in getting some thoughts and opinions.

I think it listed for about $140, a pretty good HP to dollar return if it is true.

You might get a 15 hp gain if the pan did not already have a windage tray. So if you have an aftermarket or custom oil pan it would help to get a windage tray and scrapers. I believe our cars come stock with a windage tray so the gains would be minimal if any.

This is an old topic but it hasn't been around in awhile so here's the info again...

1. The HP gains you read about from sellers is related to PUSHROD motors.

2. Our cars have a windage tray from the factory.

3. You will see almost 0 HP gains from a better windage tray on the S197

It's still not a bad mod to do cause ones like the canton are much nicer than sotck. As a rule of thumb, most people add a windage tray when they are putting in a new and better oil pan - like the morosso eliminator 7 qt pan...

It's one of those things "while I'm in there" that is usally done to compliment another mod you are already doing.

Thanks guys. I don't know much about 4.6 internals but I figured 15 hp was "optimistic".

'Optimistic' or darn right decieving knowing that it is relating to pushrod motors without trays...[:@]

They alwasy have that out to say - 'this is talking about cars without any sort of system like pushrods' if you were to call and complain after. Hate companies that run ads like that and there are LOADS of ads like that on lot's of different parts unfortunately...[X(]

I'm not going to go on a rant but make sure you always talk to CONSUMERS with parts you are interested in to compare their results and any issues if any with the what the seller CLAIMS. I recommend this for ANY peformance mod...
