Default What can I do now??

O.k... just got back from being out and around and low and behold there was an 04 Chervrolet Corvett Z06 at the red light. I get next to him and I didn't think that he would want to do anything, but none the less I was ready just incase. The light turned green and we both just kind-of take off untill I see his front end raise and then I punched mine. All through first gear, I'm not all the way on the gas being that I know that if I do I would just sit there and spin. I threw it in second and spun for about a second, but that second was just enough for him to get ahead untill I stopped spinning. We were pretty much neck to neck untill I spun and then I was at his quarter panel untill we just stopped.

My question is, what suspension mod can I do to keep this from happening again.. I mean dayum... just a split second was enough for him to moveahead. UUhhhhhh.... What kind-of tires can I run that don't cost 200 dollars and only last 6000 mile that can get traction? Thanks....

It would help if you told us what mods and stock equipment you're presently running.

you gotta pay to play... I'm guessing if you were neck and neck with an 04 Z06 then you have to be FI. Get some LCA's, UCA's, and some wider tires in the back (yes they are going to be $200+).

Hey V8Pilot, I have the exact same mods you do with the exception of the LCA and relocation brackets... down to the tee. Remember it's just the 04 model, it's the c5 not the c6... the c6 you would definately need to have the FI to mess with it. I guess that 's what I should do then.... I'll get some LCA'a and an UCA along with some good tires...

I live in Memphis... we are just about par with sea level and I heard that has a lot to do with the way the car performs. My car runs right at 12.7 - 12.9 on really good days, but average is right around 13.0 - 13.2.... all runs on street tires...

There are 3 things that could explain your keeping up with that Z06.
1. He was heavily traction limited (more than you) and spun until you both shut down
2. He was not really racing (just playing with you)
3. He couldn't drive for his life

Those "old" Z06s run very verylow 12s or high 11s with traction and a good driver. A 12.9 car isn't going to cut it against one of those...trust me, I can speak from experience.

Adjustable LCAs and BFG KDWIIs or Nitto 555r tires will help greatly. I have LCAs, relocation brackets, and Nitto 555s and going from anything under 35mph is useless (tire spin into 2nd and usually hook 3rd). Get a 10+ inch wheel in the back and fit the fattest tire you can back there. When I'm due for tires, I'm going to need to get something a little stickier than what I've got now. I don't want a DR for the street.

I would only play with a Z06 for just to see it go...there's no way I'd actually take one or stay even with one unless he has more traction problems than me or unless he can't drive for **** (which is the case for a lot of them).

A stock 04 z06 runs the 1/4 in 12.4-12.5, so I highly doubt it was an 04 that you raced. It might have been an 01, which looks almost the same, but has about 30hp less than the 04s.

There is no way you are going to be able to run with a C5 Z06 with an intake/tune, O/R pipe and gears. Even if somehow you did run a 12.7 you are still going to be a half second behind a Z06 and about 5mph slower in trap speed.. I'm just trying to get his straight so you claim to not want to spend over $200 on tires and yet you still ran a 12.7 at the track?? Did you have drag radials? Can I see a time slip? I'm going to say that the vette driver took off normally and was thinking who is this guy trying to race me.. or he had absolutely ZERO traction in all gears. The vette has 400hp at the crank you have maybe 350 in amazing air. The vette also weights about 300lbs less...
