Default Which tune to go with.

Ok i just got my SCT xcal2 set up and ready for a tune. I want to know what is the best 87 octance tune to go with. I would love the 93/91 tune but some places where i drive doesnt have it avaliable only 87. So please dont say i should go with 91/93 because its not an option for me. I was think either brenspeed for$75 or bamachip 87 perfromance tune for $50. Which one would be better? My mods are KN intake, hooker o/r x pipe, and magapack inline mufflers. Also does either one help out on gas milage at all, keep it the same, or hurts it?

thanks in advance

Every car and tune are different, so it's hard to estimate more or less mpg. I'd go with the bama performance tune for the $50.

I'd go with a Bamachips tune meerly because of the price. Using that K&N intake, you'll gain maybe 20-25hp; with a bigger intake such as a JLT/C&L/BBK/Steeda/etc, you'll pickup anywhere from 25-30hp.

BamaChips, Brenspeed, VMP Tuning all seem to work pretty well.
I went 12.9 @ 106 with just a JLTII + Mailorder BamaChips 93 Race Tune.
A 87 octane tune would only be about a 0.10-0.15 slower.
Dont waste your time on anything other than the "Race Tune" if you order Bama.

I think the K&N is better than it gets credit for on a mild car. AmericanSpeed has went 12.7 @ 108 with just a MailorderVMP Tune+ K&N CAI + Steeda Suspension. Hehad a better60' before the suspension so I dont think it helps.

VMP got 303 rwhp out ofK&N CAI, Tune, Axle Backs, UD Pulleys.

Have you considering paying $125 and gettingTunes for 87, 91, 93? You could run the 87 when required, the 91on the first tank of Premium and 93after that. I got17/27 Stock on 87, 18/28Stock on 93, and 19/30Tuned on 93 so the 93 with tune comes close to paying for itself.

I think performance wise they are all pretty equal. I've tried a couple (not bama though) and liked the Brenspeed tune better. For the extra $25 Brenspeed the customer service is well worth it. I like knowing I can call them and get someone on the phone who can answer all my questions.

I used Brenspeed for all my tunes (87/89/91octane) at first, here are my dyno #s:
(Stock)242 RWHP 252.4 RWTQ (best et 14.5)
(+CAI/87 octane Brenspeed tune) 255.4RWHP 267.2 RWTQ (best et 13.8)
(+Long Tubes/X Pipe) 267.8RWHP 272.50 RWTQ (best 13.3 with LCAs/UCA/DRs/3.73s)

That being said I actually like Doug's tunes better on the street
Brenspeed tunes have gotten me better #s at track for some reason, lol

This is for an AUTO in pre-summer AZtemps[:-]

only a 13 rwhp gain with a cai and tune. and 25 rwhp gain with full exhuast. never seen such low gains like that even if it is an auto.
