Default Nitrous question

I have been requested to post a question for a friend. Heres the deal, he is wanting to try and run a 75 shot on a brenspeed 91 octane non nitrous tune. Now he assures me that brenspeed told him that it was fine to run there 87 octane tune with the 75 shot straight up. I have heard similar reports from others. But I think he may be playing with fire here. The same guy was recently running his 91 octane tune with 87 oct wal mart gas in the tank. He insists there is no knocking/pinging/detonation when he does this. So that being said it is a givin that if he runs the nos on the 91 octane tune and he doesnt blow anything, he will surely run the nos with the 91 octane tune and 87 in the tank. I have done my best to tell him no, but he insisted I post this and get some other peoples responses. Sorry for the long possibly confusing post, I am just having a hard time making sense of what he is really wanting myself.

well.. I think there is knock correction factored into the ECU or PCM or whichever part so.. he probably hasn't had anything noticable because the programming fixed it... or.. since this is a mail order tune and not a dyno tune his engine/altitude could be playing a role in not having any issues yet. If brenspeed really told him that running a tune for n20 wasn't needed then I guess they are right.. if not.. then he is in trouble. I have no experience at all with Nooooosss!11!!!1one!1 so can't comment on that.

Well Brenspeed told him the 75 shot would be fine on the 87 octane tune. They never said anything about the 91 octane tune. The timing in the 91 could pay a real toll on his engine if he runs the Nitrous on it but hw wont listen to me.

I'm sure some of the gurus will chime in. But from what I've read (recently), you can run the 75 shot
without a single modification. You should run 91 oct though. It's not until you run a 100+ shot that
you'll need colder plugs and timing pulled.

I had emailed fred at Evo Performance about a month ago. I had this same question. I wanted to run a nitrous set up on the 87 tune. He said that it was perfectly fine as long as i used 91 or 93 octane in conjunction with the 87 tune.

I ran a canned SCT tune with a JLT intake for a couple years on nitrous. I had ttwo tuners tell me two different things and both worked:

1. Run the regular 93 tune with -2 degrees of timing for daily driving.

2. Run the91- 2 degrees for the nitrous. At the track I would take -2 degrees of timing out on the 91 tune and turn off my TCS. I never had any problems, pinging, CELs, misfires, nothing. It worked fine.

HE SHALL NOT RUN THE 87 OCTANE!! make sure he knows that. That is just asking for a hole being blown through the top of one of his pistons or blowing the tipof a spark plug off which would most likely cook his engine too.

+1^^^

You might want to correct your friend, Seth & Dave @ brenspeed when they set me up with my zex kit told me to run hightest since im in FL i have 93. You will not need a tune with 75 shot. I started with a 75 then 100 shot. I wouldnt even use a 75 shot to start because you feel a bit more but nota huge change like the 100 shot. I have a NX and Zex kit for sale since i am now Paxton charged.
