Please Explain Bama Perf/Torque Tune Differences
I have the C&L CAI with tunes on the SCT X3 Power Flash from Brenspeed. This is on a 08 GT Manual 5S with 3.55 rear end. I want to try some of the tunes from BamaChips. (Note: I am happy with the Brenspeed tunes, I just want to see what the differences are.) The octane levels available in my area are 87, 89, & 93.
BamaChips offers performance or torque tunes. What's the advantages and disadvantages of each? Does the torque tune give you more acceleration at the lower rpms while the performance does better at the higher rpms? Is the performance tune aimed at better gas mileage while the torque tune aimed at better acceleration? - or am I way off base?
I'm thinking about tryingBama's "3-pack" of tunes. Thanks.....

I'm not an expert for bama's tunes. But on his site he expalins a little bit of the differences. I believe the torque tune gives you more power down low and a little less up top. I think the perf. tune is basically a general tune giving equal power all across the band.( not sure on this one)? I believe you'd get a touch better gas mileage with the perf over torque. A 3 pack of his tunes would be good. If I had a choice I'd do: 93 race, 93 torque, and a 87 perf, for traveling or when you finally get pissed about the high fuel cost.
I did what you are doing, only I got justhis race tune. I have it installed now, if your going to get one for comparison I would do the race tune.
Perf - Better Top End and Better Response compared to stock.
Torq - Better Bottom End and Better Response compared to stock.
Race - Max Response and Max Power Everwhere.
Just get the 93 Race as you wont use the others after you try it.
It is very docile if you grew up an carbed V-8's.
Order it with the Traction Control Disabled if your a track rat.

vaporstang,
here is a link for you to check out that may give you some insight to what you are asking about. http://www.imboc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157473
keep in mind that this thread is in reference to the 08 bullitt whichhas 315 hp from the factory. i would venture to say that an 08gt may see more performance gains with a bama tune than a bullitt only because the factory tune of the gt is putting out less hp... ergo more room for improvement. and please take that last comment with a grain of salt. the guys at bamatunes would know way more than i on this topic. hope this is of assistance to you.

Thanks for all the help and the link (that's a long thread). I am going to order the 93 race tune for sure. I'm still trying to decide if I want to get two other tunes with it. I already have an 87 oct tune from Brenspeed and I don't know if there is much difference between that and the 87 Bama tune (as mentioned by brad281, the 87 tune would be good for travelling). Anyway, Thanks again!!
There is no big difference between the tunes to use one for daily driving and another for the weekend.
Just use the race tune for everyday driving, it's not too extreme!

You can get 1 tune for $50 or3 tunes for $115 at Bama. I think themain reason to get other tunes would be if you are travelling out ofyour area. Then you would want to switch to a tune that you are sure that the octane is available. Depending on where and how far I was travelling, I would probably switch to an 87 oct tune - of course you could always switch back to the stock tune.
Another issue of me is there are some stations in my area at 93 oct and some at 92, so I'm considering getting a 92 tune also.
