Default full bolts Vs FI only?

I know nothing can compare to the brute power of FI but can a full bolt on car w/NSR cams along with suspension mods (uca/lcas etc.) and gears run mid 11s on drag radials as well as a daily driver? worth it or not??

CAI/bama tune
3200 stall converter
4.10 gears
spydershafts
delete plates
under drive pulleys
kooks long tube headers/catted X-pipe
stingers axelbacks
ford hot rod cams
uca/lca's
drag radials


didn't the owner of spydershafts run an 11.8 full bolt on?

You are looking at closer to 12.50's. That combo should be good for around 350 rwhp.

Being N/A, your stall might need to be a bit higher also.

I'm not sure where I saw it, but I know there was one S197 with bolt ons running in the high 11s (Maybe MM&FF?). I think he had some more serious cams then NSRs though.

I think your gonna need a high compression fully built motor with headwork to hit those times. Not going to be daily drivable at all.

all those mods and only mid 12s? wouldn't that be the same time though lower trap speed then with a paxton 2200?

+1 not doable with the mods listed. By the time you bought all those parts and the other need to get in the 11's consistently you could have bought FI and then some.

Cheapest way to a 11 sec DD is 10psi from an FI of your choice.

Check July's issue of MM&FF. Several N/A S197s in the 11s, but they would be slower on the street. One particular article had a N/A car making 400 whp after cams, but it was 298 ci I believe.

I guess some people like the challenge of N/A, but if speed is your game, you'll end up paying more for less.

brian you saw the car. infact the guy lives about a twenty minute drive from me. he is the guy selling the spydershaft. i went to his house to pick mine up and his car was sitting out front. it is all bolt on. he doesnt have aftermarket cams or any head work WHAT SO EVER... I got to see under the hood. He has a lot of suspension work done, a few weight reduction techniques... so on and so on... Leonard Racing (Ron)... he was able to run 11.89 (automatic) on slicks/skinnies. That guy is a genius. He had so many little tricks that people dont even think about doing to there cars. His goal is to get more into the 11's without cams/heads/FI though... look up his website on google, leonard racing...

i have all of your mentioned mods but i'm manual with 3.73's and no cams. on slicks the best i hit was 12.5@112. now i have a zex kit installed so i hope to be at high 11's but there again, that's not all motor. it is doable but the average joe is not going to be able to put together that kind of car all motor.

FYI...now that i have all this money invested in my car, i wish i would have just done mild suspension mods and thrown a whipple on and been done. including the tires/rims, suspension, nitrous, and all the mods +installation, i have a little more than $10,000 invested and until the nitrous, was still getting beat by most blown S197's unless I am on drags. different story now but i am sure the blower is safer for my engine that the nitrous is.

11.5 NA, but probly way expensive
built block, 4.56 gears, i read in another mag he switched to 4.88's and went faster.
