Default Dark smoke under acceleration

So tonight I'm coming home and at the stop sign before my house I decide to get on it a bit. I ran through first gear and shifted to second at about 5K RPM, as I shifted into 2nd I looked in the rear view mirror and there was a huge puff of gray smoke out of my exhaust. My 06 GT has 39,000 miles on it, I purchased it used with 35,000 miles, and has never done this before while I've owned it. I check the oil religously and it's always fine. Coolant level has always been fine too. Any ideas?

Actually a woman did own it. She left some wonderful scratches on the glovebox when she lifted her bag/purse off the floor. Other than that though it's in perfect shape. I do plan on getting a cai/tune, ssshhh don't tell the wife. The tune should take care of the running rich problem?

Perhaps you have one of the extremely rare diesel Mustangs...

Chances are its one of the following if you had black smoke:

- Carbon build-up from being babied by the pervious owner.
- Running rich for some reason - most likely a new tune would effect this.

I vote for running some premium gas with a valve and injector cleaning additive (Chevron or Shell I believe have this) for a tank or two. Get on the car whenever you have a chance and give your flabby Mustang a work out. Treat your car like the ornery muscle car it is! Embrace your inner juvenile delinquent - that's what it was friggin' made for!

One other easy thing to do is unscrew your maf sensor from your intake (its the two torx screws) and wipe it off with a clean towel. It could be dusty/dirty and giving bad readings. That may not fix anything, but it only takes 5 minutes to do and you have to do it when you put in your new intake/tune.

Be glad its not blue smoke! I bet that woman never floored it lol. Do you calculate your MPG every fill up? If you are running rich, your MPG should be on the low side? I drive pretty much all city & have consistantly averaged 15.5-17.5. I have a A5.
