Default A question ive always had about Cams..

Why do some cams that companies sell, say things like "work best with 4.10 gears" ?

Do you lose performance if you went 3.55 instead of 4.10s.

Im just curious if you actually negate the purpose of the cam if you dont use the gear that they are intended for.

Yes, you do lose performance with taller gears. Cams gain power in the upper rpms, so with shorter gears, you are in the upper rpms more often and more quickly.

So what kind of gains do you get from cams? I'm itching to do something to my car and am considering going from 3.55s to 4.10s. Do I do them at the same time? (I'll be having a shop do the work instead of myself.) This is my daily driver.

do them at the same time you wont regret it. Also if Huffenstang if you would get the Comp NSR stage I's they are grinded for low to mid range power. You gain around 25 peak to peak torque. The top end HP may not be as much as the stage II's but still a really great street cam.
