Default Jlt cai

Ive got a JLT CAI in my 06 GT and the plastic housing that is supposed to keep all of the hot engine bay air out of the intake is pretty crappy and doesnt seem to have a tight seal at all. would it help if i added some rubber around the thing to make it at least a little more air tight? it seems thats what all of the "higher end" CAIs have.

It's not designed to "seal" air, it blocks heat from the exhaust manifold and side of motor. Even with the design it has, it won a few comparisons with the most HP/TQ gained.

i know its not supposed to seal it all the way in. that would kinda defeat the purpose of an intake, but i mean would adding rubber around the edge of the plastic housing make it more blocked off from the rest of the hot parts of the engine bay? and then making it a better working system?

Dude, I'm with you 1000% on this one. All the other heat shields have rubber on top of the shield to seal against the hood, which prevents sucking in air from around the engine. The JLT has a over a 1 inch gap between the hood and the shield. So I was actually looking to add some insualtion my self..but 1-1.5 inches is alot. I was thinking about raising the shield by using some washers, But you'd have to make the air filter sit lower because it already hits the hood liner. So, you'd need to cut or dremel out the U-shaped area where the filters rests.

Anyone have any recommendation or links for this type of insulation?

i dont think its that much of a gap because there is that little pocket in the hood liner that the filter goes into, but still i think there is a gap. rubber might be the best answer. ill try it out and let you know how it goes

also if you dremel out more of that U-shaped area and add the wasters
1 your more likely to screw up there and have it look bad and have gaps for air to get in.
and 2 your just making the gaps on the bottom of the housing so more hot air leaks in there. kinda working against yourself.

You have a point...if I raise it to seal the top, I'd be letting more air in from the bottom.
Thanks, do let me know and also what you used.

Not to hijack the thread but I've adjusted my Filter twice already from the very tip of it rubbing against the underneath of the hood right where the lining ends. Anyone else having that issue? I think I got the filter end low enough where it shouldn't hit but will have to check it in a few days.

Mine has a couple small dark spots where it's touching the top of the hood liner. I just leave it alone. I seriously doubt it's hurting anything. If I were entering the car in a show however I might be more concerned about it.

Yeah the hoodliner I'm not concerned w/ but the paint just beyond the hoodliner has some wear and wear on the filter. I thought I fixed this prior by moving it as far up as I could but come to find it worn some more so this time I angled the filter down as much as possible and loosened up the heat shield. We'll see
