Default Dipstick problem

Am I the only one with this issue?

I let the car cool for 15 minutes. Insert dipstick, remove, wipe, then reinsert. When I remove the dipstick again to check the level there usually seems to be some oil above the top dot. However the area around the dot itself does not have any oil. This makes it seem like the car has more than what it should - but I know only six quarts went in.

This doesn't always seem to happen. Sometimes there is no oil above the top dot. I think it's being finicky about how I remove the dipstick and since it has a twist to it oil tends to stick along the length where you don't necessarily want it.

Think about it. When you pull the dipstick out, there is oil on the end of it. As it comes out some of that oil is left in the tube above where the add mark will be. That is the oil you see when you dip it again and pull it out.

The straight dipstick in my Honda doesn't do this. I think it's because there is a twist in this one that it has that tendency to pick up oil in the tube.

I have to agree with that.
Mine is the same way. I put in usually 6.5 qt's to hit the top of the full mark.

You are used to the thicker oils of yesteryear when more stuck to the dipstick.
Plus the second reinsertion conclusion above.

Normal. When you pull it out initially, you should have a decent reading if it's sat for awhile.
