Default Which NSR cam? FRPP hot rods or Comp Thumpr?

A set of cams will be my next mod. I'd like to hear from people who have either of them. If so was the car dynoeed before and after? Which ones are more aggressive? I know the Thumpr requires cam phase limiters. Do the hot rods? Clips would be appreciated? Thank you.

Im going to install the thumpers myself over the winter. It seems the comp NSR seem to have a little better power in the upper end.I would put phaser limiters on either on.

People have ran the FRPP without the cam phase limiters... it is recommended but like I said people do run them without them...

No it is NOT recommended to run phaser limiters with the FRPP Hot Rods. Ford designed these to work with the production valve train and every one at Ford Racing will tell you to not use them.

The FRPP Hot Rods were designed by the same engineers who designed the stock cams.

The Thumprs need the limiters. The Thumprs will also lose a good amount of HP and TQ below 4K. The Hot Rods do not lose any. They make consistent gains throughout the whole RPM range.

I much prefer the Hot Rods.

Also, Ford is using the Hot Rods with their new 3v crate engine.

i think that ford would know a little more about the engine than comp does... i'd probably go with the hot rods.

Like SirKnight said the biggest reason I went with the Hot Rod cams was the fact the were engineered by the same people who designed the stock cams. I chose NSR cams because I know changing the springs is a lot more money or frustration if you do the install.(I know mechanics at Ford who have had long days changing these springs with the heads on a work bench much less in the vehicle.) I have no experience with Comp cams they may also be NSR cams I don't know so I can't comment on them, but you probably can't go wrong with either choice as far a power and sound.

I assume by aggressive you mean the sound? Here is a clip for you.

I was pretty sure I read they recommended them... I thought it was in Hammeron's FRPP Cam install thread... But I am not going to look through 5 pages to prove my point.. GL either way...

them but Brenspeed did, when i ordered

Ah yeah, that's where you thought you read they were needed. Brenspeed.

The guys at brenspeed really know their stuff and you can trust them with just about anything, but in this case, I'd go with what Ford says to not use them. Like Texotic said, I think you can trust Ford to know their engine the best.

I've sent an email to Doug of Bamachips asking his opinion out of curiosity why limiters are needed for Thumprs but not Hot Rods. When he replies back I'll post what he said.

The Thumprs are NSR, but perhaps they are just slightly higher lift than the hot rods thus the reason for limiters?

I've got the plain-jane Comp NSR's. No limiters. I think the only difference between the regular Comp NSR's and the Thumpers is the timing of the exhaust. As I recall they made the exhaust open early to give the engine more of a popping sound and rougher idle.
