The owners manual and maintenance guide would beg to differ.
Get 'the car guy' to show it to you in writing. Pops has it right.
What do you think you forked up?

Default Oil Question

A lot depends on how you use your car, and what kind of oil you put into it. If I were using "dino oil", I would change it every 3K miles, although going to 5K wouldn't really hurt anything. When I used to use Mobil 1, I changed it every 5K miles and that was probably very conservative. I recently switched to Amsoil 0W20, the 25K mile stuff, along with their oil filter. I'm going to stretch it out to 15K miles with this combo. I reason if Amsoil says they have tested this oil and it is good to 25K miles, 15K miles is more than safe. They also state if you are using this oil, their filter is also good to 25K miles.
Now if you are racing and otherwise beating the teeth out of your car, you'd probably want to change it sooner. I recently read that in Europe and Japan, they go much longer on oil changes than we do. Oils today are orders of magnitude better than they were even 10-15 years ago.
My wife drives a Miata that is comming up on 200K miles (most of it's life on Mobil 1, it, also, now gets Amsoil) and still runs like a new car. When it got Mobil 1, it went 5K miles between changes. I've peeked inside while changing timing belts and that engine looks like a new dime inside. Synthetic oil, worth every dime.

I've been changing my own oil for over 36 years. My rule of thumb: 3k miles with dino, 7k miles with blend and 10k+ with full synthetic (with variances on all due to severe vs. "normal" service). I've used 10k mile oil/filter changes with M1 in my SUV's and Amsoil in my Stang.

Our Stangs come with Motorcraft synthetic blend and should be good for 7k miles. Most peeps like to perform their first oil change early, however, due to old habits regarding casting debris in the engine when new which is NOT an issue these days).

Having worked on cars for most of my life.. oil can last forever.. the problem is .. it gets contaminated.. so I don't care what kind of oil it is .. every 3,000 miles to a max. of 4,000 miles it needs to be changed..!!! period..!!!
as far as time.. no big deal unless it is a year..

I am sorry Goldenpony but I disagree with the hype that oil company is telling you.. changing your oil at 15,000 miles even though they say it is safe for 25,000 miles.. ahahahah .. you are going to ruin a perfectly good engine by doing it that way.. again.. oil gets contaminated due to the combustion cycle going on INSIDE the engine.. you can drain your manual trans fluid and it will look like the day it was put in your car as all you are doing is changing gears.. that is it.. but your engine has SO MUCH more going on inside.. look at your dipstick at say around 10,000 miles and see if that oil looks new.. I bet it doesn't..

don't believe me.. there is a site called something like bob the oil guy.. he has the answer to ALL your oil needs..!!! his site is free to you.. so it is his money he is spending.. so what does he have to gain..??? ( yeah I think he has sponsors now along with adds that pay him.. but at first it was ALL his money )

heck even your owners manual will not tell you to NOT go over 7,500 miles.. and remember.. they want to sell you another car.. so they want that engine to wear out faster ..!!! think about it..!!!! even a Corvette comes stock with Mobile One pure synthetic oil in it.. and it also says.. no more than 7,500 miles " under perfect driving conditions.. " find me perfect driving conditions.. you can't..

bottom line.. MY CAR will always get a oil change every 3,000 miles.. and I also use Mobile one pure synthetic oil and a Mobile One oil filter.. so that oil change is NOT cheap..
around $40.00 in just oil and a oil filter..!!!

JMO on the subject.. but I would need to see it with my own eyes before I let my oil go that long without a change... as I have overhauled too many engines in my life because of people going over that magic number of 3,000 to no more than 4,000 miles..!!!!

The color of crankcase oil has absolutely NO bearing on its' condition. The only way to determine if any of the additive packages are depleted is to have it tested. Any oil will often turn black within a few hundred miles but synthetics and some blends can be fine well beyond 10,000 miles or more. If black is YOUR indicator as to when to replace your oil, you'd better start changing it before 1,000 miles.

And Rex, someone better tell my '00 4Runner tow vehicle to die because I do oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals with M1 and I have over 150,000 miles on her and she runs like new and uses no oil. That's about 15 oil changes to your 50...
