For an H-pipe

The H-pipe will help you equalize the exhaust pressures coming from the two sides/banks. This is done as the exhaust gasses travel towards your exhaust. What this can do is relieve the exhaust gas pressures as it moves through the H-pipe. The result is an increase in torque.

For an X Pipe:

X-pipes are known to help scavenge pulses from the exhaust. This creates a vacuum effect as it scavengees the pulses from one of the banks as the opposite bank's pulses go through the X-pipe. This also adds torque. The X-pipes also have smoother bends at the convergence. This results in increased flow and scavenging compared to the H-pipe. In essence the X-pipe will make more power.

Hope that wasn't too confusing...

h-pipe=lower grumble at idle.
x-pipe=screams at wot.

the power difference is very small.

As far as headers go, any one know how much gains can be seen with shortys? Any one have any experience with any of them (ie. Ford Racing, Mac, JBA)? Worth the money or no?

I would defniitely go with LTs. Shorties will net you some gains, but LTs will net you so much more. LTs will react better to mods than shorties will.

Eric... you are in SoCal, right? Which LTs are "legal" here?

Oh boy...one is virtually yet to be found. That's one of the things that sucks about Cali...damn strict smog rules![:'(]
