Default Long Tube headers

Do long tube headers require a new tune?
These are the headers i am looking at purchasing.

http://www.brenspeed.com/20546.html

Has anyone installed theses on their mustang and willing to comment or give advice (I will be doing the install myself, with access to a lift)

Also are there headers that for the money would provide a better gain such as BBK long tubes? Although i have heard of BBK's having a CEL that can not be tuned away.

Yes you need a tune as you'll run a bit lean after installing LTs.

All LT headers give about the same HP gains give or take a little. I chose the Kooks b/c Brenspeed had a good package with everything I needed/wanted and Kooks are tune friendly. Brenspeed seems to say these MACs are as well. That's cool. Unfortuantely my Kooks are still in the box.

I'm a huge fan of MAC's Boomtube axle-backs so I'm sure their headers are awesome as well. A lot of people have them.

I noticed you're in Cali. Since they are emission ***** over there, having LTs may cause issues getting inspected. They don't like it when the stock cats are messed with. Most in Cali tend to get shorties b/c of this. But if you know you won't have a problem getting inspected or don't mind swapping then LTs it is!

My ARH longtubes are on the way and i can't wait to put these bad boys on! definitely get it tuned so you don't mess anything up. ill be having my tuner install them for me along with retuning my car. I'm in California too but i figure i can probably find some smog place that will "look the other way" and pass it anyway when the time comes... for now i will enjoy them!

Lazy boy, if you buy BBK LT you might have problems with your steering linkage rubbing your driver side header if you lower you car. Also LT legallity doesn't end with smog laws...If a cop stops you and looks under your hood and sees your LTs he could impound your car . Fu*k that, I have BBK LTs now and I will be switching them out for JBA shorties because I am so afraid of this. Also think about where CA is heading so far as gay *** smog laws. They aren't going to get any more leniant. Anyways I bought my shorties from gravana tuning for 350 out the door. I recommend you do the same.

I installed kooks longtubes about a month ago and had a new email tune made, I didn't like it so i switched back to my tune before the longtubes and haven't had one problem. I did add 2% fuel with my tuner and it put me at 11.6 a/f. I've been meaning to take out the 2% fuel to get me back to the 12.0 a/f I was at, but can't ever remember to do it. IMO longtubes don't absolutely need a tune, but it doesn't hurt to have one. Also some longtubes have to have a tune to have the cel to go out.

I wont have a problem getting them smogged. Thanks for the input everyone i'm looking forward to installing these even though some people say they are a pain. =)

BFMacias I've had at least four of my friends with long tubes on their cars get pulled over and have their engines gone over with a fine tooth comb and cops have never even mentioned the headers. Only one of my friends had any problem with a cop and that was due to having his car set up for NOS, although since he didn't have the bottle in the car the cop let us go. However thank you for the concern.

I'm just hoping a few sane people in high enough places can keep the laws from becoming to crazy.

Josh

Without my tune i got a "Check engine" light.
I also have an off-road pipe. No emission laws overhere

I just get pulled over for making too much noise.

quick question here, im pretty sure i will be buying a pair of jba long tubes, and was wondering if anything bad would happen if i installed them with a o/r h pipe without a tune? i imagine with a tune it will also show more hp's right?

You definitely need the tune. You will pickup additional HP and won't throw any codes.
