Default From 8 to 2???

I was talking to a friend at work and he said he was going to make his mustang GT so it could switch from 8 cylinders to 2 cylinders. I know the Dodge Charger R/T uses something like this. I was just wondering if there was a mod to make it switch from 8 to 4 or 2 for gas.

The HEMI engines that do this go from 8 to 4, not 2.

The only way you're going to get a current Mustang V8 to do this is to unplug spark plug wires. But you wont save anything in addition to it running bad.

Either your friend is a mechanical engineering genius, or he is a big mouth moron.

Which do you think is more likely?

Yeah, if you could rig your CPU to run the engine on 1 cylinder, you could enter the SuperMoto class.

In seriousness, I think that GM came up with this on the Northstar engines in the STS/Eldorado Cadillacs back in the 90s.
The goal then, was to coast the car home on its own power in the event of an overheating problem without destroying the engine.
It would run on 4 cyl for a while and switch to the other 4 so they'd have a chance to cool off a little...
Now it's mainly gas consumption savings.

When the S197 GT goes into "limp home" mode, it runs on 4 cylinders and circulates air to cool the engine in the other four, but that's a far different story than being able to make the car run on two cylinders for gas mileage.

It's easy, this is how I do it.

You can't run a v8 on only 2 cylinders!

hahaha that is a sick bike moose, I love naked bikes like that.

If I ever get another bike it will be something similar, I sold my gixxer 1000 right before I moved to fla and kinda miss been on 2 wheels. My buddy back home had a buell that looked similar to that and I would switch up with him all the time, they are fun to ride.
