Default Stoker Question

I have zero knowledge of sroker kits, I want to buy a 298 stroker kit for my 4.6, but my question is, why is it a 298? I dont have to bore my engine any do i? That is, is it ok to use my stock block? I may be wrong but i do not know, but to have to bore my engine it would have to be a 5.0 kit correct, or am i wrong?
But really all in all i wanna know what makes the 281 into a 298. Thank you. I know i sound dumb, but when it comes to this i am.
