Predator - What is it ?
Hi
On a technical note, what exactly is the predator ?
Is it just a terminal emulator ? could the same function be performed using a laptop and DB9 serial cable downloading the tune via hyperterminal ? Im assuming the tune that you can download from the web is nothing more than a Hex file.
Does anyone know what the chip on the car that receives the tune, is it a EEPROM, PIC, Flash ROM ? anyone got any ideas
Thanks
Steve

RE: Predator - What is it ?
He's looking to avoid buying ANYTHING, just wants to download the tune and plug his laptop directly up to the car and make the change himself. I say, go for it, let us know how it works out.
But I don't think your gonna get an answer to the question here... maybe you need to call Ford?

There are several options out there for us computer geeks that want to use our notebooks with out cars.
Check out these sites to read about some of them... Most of the ready available stuff only lets you read, log and clear codes.

http://www.autotap.com/autotap_for_windows.html
http://www.obdscan.net/
http://www.auterraweb.com/index.html
And of course.. once you have the interface set up.. if your a real nerd.. you can write your own programs to access or change your cars systems.
There are packages out there that let you write to the EProm.. but your going to have to do some real searching to find them.

Uhhh, first question: It was a movie that came out in the 80's.
Everything else.....you lost me at terminal emulator.
