I think the best sounding exhaust hands down is the Roush off-road exhaust. Believe me it is worth the money. The axle backs just don't sound as good as the Roush exhaust.

I think flows sound okay but a lot of people don't like how they sound on the 05+. Flows have a nice tone at idle and cruising speeds but don't sound that aggressive at WOT. Regarding laws about certain axlebacks. I live in Cali, the home were 49 state legal means illegal. I used to have maganapacks with prochamber and hi-flow. I know that was over the legal noise limit and now I run SLPs and they are even louder. I have had cops in front of me, beside me and even behind me. I just easy the peddle and shift around 1500-1800 RPMS.

You should go with boomtubes, and if you have to take your car in for emissions then just swap the stock mufflers in. Swapping mufflers will only take about 45 minutes.

My pypes bomb catback didn't fit, so i'm making my own exhaust with my tried and true awesome 4.6 setup: 1-chamber flowmaster race mufflers and an off-road prochamber.

well i do not want to change anything past the mufflers, but here's a better example:

On my stock set up, we're cruising at around 75mph on the highway, now if i hit WOT then you would hear the 8 fire up.. but just cruising im not so sure.. I want that deep tone when cruising.. Are boomtubes the only way?

I've heard new edge GTs that are just throaty from extremely far. Is it our cats that really cut down on the noise?

that is the pypes violators on an 09 GT.. if it sounds anything like that.. then i wouldnt want them.. Sounds a bit too high pitched for me with that added poppy noise.. not really my style.. Ever hear an 03-04 cobra sitting idle? Or ever drive on the highway next to a stang that had a sweet low deep drone or a purr when it got on the gas?

Good luck on getting that sound. A midmuffler set-up might be the closest you are going to get.
