Default This is why you need to be on top of your 5R55S Transmission

So as many of you already know, I grenaded my transmission two weeks ago. The damage was pretty extensive, and the reasons for the failure were simple: too much shift pressure, three quarts short of tranny fluid, and no type of cooling for the fluid other than the stock transmission cooler. Here are the things I scraped together for your viewing pleasure:

HOW THE INPUT SHAFT SHOULD LOOK

HOW MY INPUT SHAFT LOOKED

BUSTED SEAL

NOT JUST BURNED, BUT TOASTED CLUTCHES

MORE BROKEN GOODIES

YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO KNOW JACK S*** ABOUT CARS TO KNOW THIS IS TOTALLY F***ED!!!

In the end, all is well. Peter Gonzalez Del Pino, who has the record for the fastest pass on a stock 5R55S and fastest pass on a built 5R55S built the transmission for me as he is a personal friend of mine. The transmission feels better then it did even on the day it left the lot, I can't say how happy I am with how amazing the transmission feels... Smooth as silk, yet strong as a rock, that's exactly how it feels when I drive it. This transmission is now rated to 700HP, though I can honestly say I don't plan on passing 600RWHP ever on this car. I highly recommend that those of you out there with automatic 3V mustangs stay on top of your transmissions, the pictures speak for themselves.

The car has 37,000 miles, has been tracked 11 times for a total of about 100 passes at the track with a very aggressive tune. The tranny is completely rebuilt now, good to 700HP. The heat is what kills it, not enough fluid was what started all this, bottom line

I think the most important gauga in our car is the transmission oil temp. T-brake usage can increase temp by 50 degrees per second

This is exactly why one of my first mods was the PA deep pad with dip stick and trans temp gauge. I have yet to see over 160 in trans temp with the extra 4 quarts. Now, twisting of the input shaft is a whole different issue.

Do they even make a trans brake for the 5r55s?

Ouch. Was your transmission stock? Or was it tuned? I worry about my trans my 07 Gt. The bama tune shifts hard.

Don't know. Our car had a 4r70w + t-brake...just swapped that out for a 2 speed glide + t-brake.....regardless, high temps can hurt any of them.

I thought I read that the transmission was sealed, and no way to check it?
