Default New GT!

Hey everyone just purchased my first Mustang GT today! It's a 2006 Vista Blue with 28k miles on it. The outside is mint without a ding or dent on it along with the inside, looks brand new. It is a 5 speed manual (yay, my v6 I had for 2 months was auto and I regretted buying it). It's a premium package and has a Shaker 1000 (sounds terrific), front side air bags, leather seats, boom tubes, cdc chin spoiler, etc. I bought it from a guy off this forum too (great guy) and so far could not be happier.

A few quick questions I have right off the bat with this thing are very simple but need some help.

First, the previous owner was running on 89 octane throughout his ownership, now do most of you guys use 89 octane or is 87 going to run okay? What are the downsides of using 87 and what are the ups of 89? The car btw except for the boom tubes is 100% stock.

Second, I noticed in the S197 generation I believe in 08 or 09 maybe they added seat belt holders by the head rests to make them easier to grab (they're a pain in the *** to reach back for), now do they sell these anywhere to put them in my car?

Like any other kid I plan on doing some modifications to the car and probably going to get the exterior done first. Here are some pictures of the car now:

Plans:
-Paint CDC Chin Spoiler to match car
-GT500 Spoiler
-Roush Wheels
-Quarter Window Louvers
-Custom Roush side stripe (make the 427R say S197 maybe)

What do you think?

Well the car is made to run on 87...some people put different grades in, i know my friend runs 89 all the time, and he doesnt hqve a tune...i run 87, and whenever i put in my fuel cleaner, i fill with 93(shell vpower) and then go bak to 87...running 93 cleans out all the deposites and crap that gets left behind

Save yourself the cost and just fill up with 87, that's what it calls for.

Best bet though would be to get a hand tuner and run 93

Car looks very nice....I wish my car still didn't have a ding in it. Someone decided to park next to me in an open parking lot and put a nice door ding in it.

Congrats!

I think you're mods list will be awesome.

Include the Roush front and you're set.

Haha yes of course, that would be the last thing but I personally love the Roush look. I've been learning 5-speed since yesterday when I got it (I'm 18) and so far am getting the hang of it and just drove it myself today without my dad, it's an absolute blast to drive!

Congrats Datsyuk,

Vista Blue is a pretty color. A friend had one and I was always jealous at how easy washing/waxing her car was in comparison to my own.

There is a strap at the bottom of the seat that you put the seat belt through. It makes it slightly easier.

As far as fuel is concerned, no added benefits with putting a higher grade in unless you are running a tune, which of course any member is going to recommend.

Going with a higher grade fuel is totally dependent on your compression ratio and how far advanced your timing is set at.

If your engine is stock and the timing wasn't tuned and also left stock, it makes absolutely no difference in performance if you use 87, 89, 91, 93, or even 100 octane.
The single only difference is you will pay more for gas.

In order to get more power from a higher octane fuel, you will need to either up the compression ratio, tune your timing, or both.

What octane count does is protect your engine from detonating if you you have a higher CR and/or an ignition timing tune. The higher the octane count, the less likely your engine will detonate.
