Default 05?

Hello folks, I was on here about 6 or 7 months ago asking for advice with helping a friend of mine get her first mustang. I have now come across the unique opportunity to get myself an 05 mustang gt deluxe to replace my current daily driver. I live in Michigan but up until two years ago had never owned a front wheel drive car. To be honest I don't like it and I'm looking forward to having rear wheel again. The mustang I am looking it is on a local dealer lot where my uncle knows the owner so they are offering me a great trade in on my current car. The mustang is lime green with 47,500 miles, 5 speed manual, with leather interior. It is originally a Florida car so it is very clean. One thing I noticed that I wasn't sure about was in the center of the dash is a 100 year centennial plaque. Was this on the 05's or was this added? What are your thoughts on the car and it being a daily driver? I am excite to have the opportunity to possibly own one of these cars and I love the looks of this model year.

Mustang is a great daily driver. There are several here with way north of 100k on them. 47k is nothing really. You might want to do a search for TSBs for that year......ie the commom issues with that year. Mine is an 06 bought last year. I drive it nearly everyday...........and its awesome.

I think that plaque was added. Mustangs make great daily drivers or as summer cruisers. They are probably not the best choice for snowy conditions....so hopefully you live in area where there is minimal snow.

They are fun cars with lots of opportunities to make mods. The key with buying use is to be patient and look for one that has been well kept. One owner, low K's, no accidents, private sales etc. are usually your best bet.

The mustang I'm looking at has had two owners but it is very clean and has no accidents or other issues listed on the carfax. Unfortunetly the area I live in does tend to get a fair amount of snow. I am not overly worried about this though. I daily drove one of those little Chrysler crossfires for three years though the snow so I am fairly confidant I can handle the mustang.

Sounds nice....Mustangs are great daily drivers and fun to own. In he winter put on a good set of set of all season tire or even a pair of Blizzaks on a spare set of rims. Do you any pictures and how much is the dealer asking?

The plaque is added and don't even know why the 100 years centennial. 2014 will be the 50th anniversary of the mustang and 2009 had the 45th anniversary badges, 2004 had the 40th anniversary badges ON the fenders.

2005 is the introductory year of the s197 body style so it may be prone to more of the TSB's released. Take a look through the stickies. The water leak is one of the more well spread issues.

GT makes a fine daily driver. I use mine as such. Since you're in MI, may want to invest in winter tires for those months.

+1 on getting familiar with the TSB's (they're in the stickies in the 2005-2011 main forum), particularly the one on the water leak. THAT could be a deal killer. Also, I'd certainly invest in a set of mounted dedicated winter tires. I lived in Monroe, south of Detroit, for 4 years.

Although my '07 GT isn't my DD, I do tend to use it for trips since it gets better highway mileage than my V6 SUV. But the g/f's '06 (Legend Lime) is her DD. Great cars to drive. Gets a lot of looks.

Thanks for the info, the dealer wants about 14k for the mustang. I plan on picking up a set of new rims and getting some good winter tires for the future.

Here is a picture of the car.

Thanks for the info guys!

I'd offer $13k and see if he comes down, although $14k isn't bad for the low mileage.

I paid a Ford dealer $13.5K for an '06 V6 LL w/ Pony Package in April 2009, mint condition/garage kept with 9630 miles.
